The CDL has four core programs: the UC Curation Center (UC3); Shared Collections; Discovery & Delivery; and Publishing, Archives, and Digitization. UC3 supports leading-edge products (DMPTool, Merritt, EZID), as well as initiatives in the areas of data management planning, data publication, persistent identifiers, and digital preservation. California Digital Library is a unit within the Academic Affairs division of the UC Office of the President, has a staff of 75+, and is located in downtown Oakland.
Position Summary The Senior Product Manager - Data Management Planning is responsible for managing a portfolio of University of California research data management products and services offered by the UC Curation Center (UC3) that include DMP Tool and a variety of systemwide initiatives. The primary role of the Senior Product Manager is to assemble and lead cross-functional teams that support the daily operations of the UC3 products and services, to manage product development activities, and to guide the implementation of features to improve the use and effectiveness of the portfolio. The Senior Product Manager also guides UC3 staff in the development of value-added products and services, and works with key campus stakeholders and industry partners to ensure that this service suite continues to provide transformative research data management solutions. The position is responsible for evaluating new opportunities and technologies that would advance UC3's work as well as industry trends as they emerge, to determine if they can be adapted for increased utility of the UC3 research data management portfolio. The Senior Product Manager will set the direction for each of the products within this portfolio, ensuring that they are leading edge in their design and implementation and that they address the needs of users - within UC and across the State of California. The Senior Product Manager plays a pivotal role in UC3 by shaping the trajectory for the portfolio through the development of long-range strategic plans and roadmaps. The position also leads strategic conversations and engagement with national and international initiatives within the digital library space.
35% Data Management Planning Portfolio Leadership and Oversight: Manage a portfolio of products and services related to data management planning and the need to make them machine-actionable so that they can be leveraged more fully. This includes collaborations with various national and international initiatives around DMPs and the evolving interest and adoption of maDMPs.
20% DMP Tool Product Development and Enhancement: Guide product development activities with a focus on DMP Tool (dmptool.org) and related projects, overseeing the effective implementation of features that further the utility of the information included and make them more machine-actionable and interoperable.
15% Strategic DMP Planning: Develop comprehensive, long-range strategic plans and roadmaps specifically tailored to maDMPs, shaping the trajectory of their implementation and addressing emerging community trends.
10% Opportunity Assessment: Evaluate new opportunities and technologies related to maDMPs, determining their adaptability to enhance research output tracking.
10% Campus Collaboration: Collaborate with key campus stakeholders to ensure that DMPs play a pivotal role in providing transformative solutions for UC.
10% Community Engagement: Lead strategic conversations and engagement with national and international initiatives within the digital research space, focusing on the crucial role of maDMPs in advancing UC3's objectives.
Experience Required Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years of experience working within the research data environment, academic library, data sciences, or related fields.
Skills and Abilities Required Qualifications
Data Management Planning Expertise: Expertise in areas regarding research data management planning and their evolving role in research data management, funder and institutional policy, and open science landscapes.
Product Management: Proven skills in managing product development projects, including working with external stakeholders and internal development staff to prioritize and implement new features.
Strategic Thinking: Demonstrated ability to develop long-range strategic plans and roadmaps specifically tailored to data management planning within product portfolios.
Innovation: Track record of adopting innovative technologies and adapting community trends specifically related to data management planning for practical applications.
Stakeholder Management: Effective collaboration with campus stakeholders and community partners to ensure the seamless integration and utilization of DMPs in meeting user needs.
Digital Research Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of the digital research space.
Communication: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for leading strategic conversations and engagement related to DMPs within the UC3 context.
Education Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in the lab sciences, information science, data science, or other disciplines related to research data management.

Full Salary Range: $105,500 - $200,700
The University of California, Office of the President, is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range shows the growth potential for this position and the pay scale is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.
