The Water Quality Association (WQA) is a not-for-profit association for the residential, commercial, and industrial water treatment industry. WQA represents more than 2,500 member companies around the globe. Our membership is comprised of equipment manufacturers, suppliers, dealers, and distributors of water quality improvement products and services.
As a Membership & Development Director, you will leverage either association or water treatment industry experience, to drive value-driven growth in membership, recruitment, and retention programs, sponsorship opportunities, Business Operations training programs, and non-dues revenue generation activities for WQA. Additionally, the Membership & Development Director encourages and initiates efforts by members and member committees in establishing standards for membership and bringing new members into the association.
As a key member of the Leadership Team, participate in the overall development of the department’s strategic plans and initiatives by providing leadership on membership acquisition, retention, and campaigns.
Manage, motivate, and mentor the Membership & Development Department, supporting the organizational strategic plan.
Serve as staff liaison to the Business Operations Training Committee. Responsibilities include identifying topics, speakers, and evaluating business educational track for the annual convention and Boot Camp.
Oversee all aspects of membership operations, including strategic planning, reporting results, membership marketing, program and benefit development, relationships management, customer service/fulfillment, budget, and staffing.
Work with the leadership team, assigned committees, sections, and task forces to develop a strategic plan for membership, identify new member audiences, and continually assess current and potential member benefits for value and relevancy.
Develop and implement the annual plan for membership recruitment, retention, and engagement, including enhancements of current member benefits, development of new benefits, and outreach.
Collaborate with other departments to identify opportunities for member recruitment, retention, and engagement in all programs and services.
Work closely and collaboratively with the Finance Department to assess the department's overall financial performance, including revenue generation, expense management, and invoicing/collection of receivables.
Act as the champion for defining and delivering value to our membership, increasing member satisfaction, reporting, and maintaining relevant statistics to measure success.
Serve as staff liaison to the membership committee and any assigned sections and task forces associated with growing membership, enhancing member value, and improving member satisfaction.
Build, maintain, and actively manage relationships with key members from all segments.
Represent the Association through speaking, presentations, and participation in meetings, conventions, and conferences.
Evaluate the effectiveness and sustainability of membership marketing strategies, such as fee and membership category structures, services, materials, benefits, and policies relating to the retention of current members and acquisition of new members, and recommend changes as appropriate to attain goals.
Work closely and collaboratively with the Marketing & Communications Department to develop and disseminate strategic member marketing materials (e.g., brochures, letters, emails, social media, and web platforms).
Support, when appropriate, the other business units’ initiatives, such as but not limited to events and certification programs.
Lead the development and execution of non-dues revenue generation programs for the Association. Identify, develop, and execute non-dues revenue programs for WQA through leveraging current Association assets and programs or by developing new avenues of revenue generation (corporate partnerships, sponsorship, third-party tie-ins, sponsorships, etc).
Eight to ten (8-10) years in business development and/or account management role within the water treatment industry or membership management.
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Communications, Marketing, or similar.
Certified Association Executive (CAE) credential is preferred.
Strong project management background.
Excellent relationship-building and people skills with an ability to relate well with various constituencies.
Record for creating effective working relationships with a broad spectrum of audiences, such as key accounts, business prospects, and external partners.
Strong emphasis on key account satisfaction and employee engagement with fiscal responsibility.
