Position Summary:
Reporting to the Manager of Community Planning, the Planning Technician will review and process individual, small, and medium scale development applications such as, consents, site plan control, minor variances and Niagara Escarpment Development Control Permits. The Planning Technician will conduct research, prepare, and present Staff Reports to Committees and Council and provide input on policy projects and programs. Additionally, they will provide a first point of contact for digital and in-person resident, customer and inter departmental inquiries.

Four (4) year degree in Land Use Planning, Geography or equivalent, or a minimum four (4) year college degree in Planning (or related discipline).
Three (3) years of relevant experience and experience with Committees of Adjustment under the Ontario Planning Act. Ability and willingness to obtain CPT designation through the Member of the Canadian Association of Certified Planning Technicians, or MCIP and RPP designation through the Canadian Institute of Planners and Ontario Professional Planners Institute.
Demonstrated working knowledge and experience with GIS software.
Valid G driver’s license.
Strong organization and time management skills.
Exceptional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on customer service.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Effective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.
A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills.
Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills.
Knowledge of federal, provincial, and municipal regulations.
