Position Purpose: Reporting to the Manager, Policy Planning, this position is responsible for leading major policy projects within the Policy Division of the Development Services Department. This position will provide a critical role in coordinating and overseeing multiple policy related initiatives of a multi-disciplinary nature. The main portfolio for this position will include, but will not be limited to provincial policy legislation, housing policy, mature neighbourhoods, community character, sustainability and climate change, natural heritage, etc. The Planner III - Policy Projects Coordinator will be responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating policy, research and special projects/initiatives. This position will be the lead on the implementation of the Town’s housing policy portfolio and will be responsible for developing and implementing a work plan that supports the Town’s policy-related priorities.
Qualifications and Requirements: • University degree in Planning, Urban Studies or a related field. • Master’s Degree in Planning or equivalent, would be considered an asset. • A minimum of four (4) years of progressive policy planning experience, preferably in a municipal environment with three (3) years of experience in project management from a policy planning perspective. • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. • Thorough knowledge of the Planning Act, Provincial Policy Statement, Greenbelt Plan, Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan, Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe, and other related planning legislation on land-use planning matters, regulations, guidelines, planning principles, practices and processes. • Proven proficiency in policy planning, developing official plan policy, and familiarity with the development approvals process. Experience in housing policy would be considered an asset. • Ability to pivot quickly depending on policy priorities. • Demonstrated leadership abilities. • Project management experience in the policy planning field, with excellent organizational skills to guide special projects and direct research. • Excellent interpersonal, public facilitation and conflict resolutions skills and ability to interact effectively with municipal staff, elected officials, residents, agencies and stakeholders. • Proven ability to set work priorities, with excellent organizational and time management skills, with a strong ability to meet deadlines under pressure and with minimal supervision. • Advanced research, superior analytical and critical-thinking skills, and report-writing skills. • High degree of accuracy, attention to detail and record keeping skills. • Ability to solve problems and make decisions, discretion and good judgement when dealing with sensitive matters. • Registered Professional Planner with OPPI/CIP. • Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License in good standing.
