DESCRIPTION
The University Communications Creative and Digital Strategy (CDS) department is responsible for developing creative assets and vehicles that advance UC San Diego's reputation of prestige and distinction as a leading global research university and academic medical center.
The Creative and Digital Strategy department is made up of six distinct teams: design, project management and editorial, digital strategy, photography, video and UC San Diego Magazine. Staff members work collaboratively as a team of professionals who identify and leverage new tools to engage, inspire and galvanize key constituencies. The department also operates two full-featured video and photography studios for video recording, podcasting, photography and broadcast productions.
Employing best practices in research, planning, execution and measurement, CDS team members bring curiosity and agility to creating digital, print, photo, video and graphic assets that contribute to the university's short- and long-term strategic and operational objectives. Members of the CDS department also serve as key advisers to University Communications and campus leaders and facilitate crossfunctionalcollaboration.
Reporting to the Creative Director, the Senior Artist develops and produces original graphic designs for a wide range of official UC San Diego publications, both printed and electronic. The Senior Artist produces print and digital designs from concept through production, pre-press, and printing. The Senior Artist manages all technical aspects of offset and digital printing processes for his/her projects. Print projects range from one- to complex multicolor publications, including but not limited to invitations, annual reports, booklets, brochures, posters, banners, advertising, graphic identity programs, and illustrations.
The Senior Artist also designs dynamic digital communications for UC San Diego clients, including creative assets for websites, emails, social media, and video projects. All work produced by the Senior Artist reflects the prescribed graphic standards of the university. The Senior Artist demonstrates strong design and technical skills; a commitment to customer service; experience in working independently and collaboratively with a diverse group of artists, coordination staff, vendors, and clients; and sound organizational and detail-oriented skills in a high-volume creative unit. The Senior Artist promotes a culture of equity, diversity and inclusion and acts in accordance with the principles of community.

QUALIFICATIONS
Experience providing graphic solutions to design problems appropriate to audience/budget/timeframe requirements.
Experience producing publications from concept through final printing.
Experience designing within an existing brand or graphics standards system.
Advanced technical skill using publishing software (i.e., Adobe Creative Cloud) to create and execute complex print and digital designs.
Experience working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Demonstrated competency and commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
Bachelor's degree in a related area, or equivalent experience / training.
