Title: Assistant Comptroller

General Summary:
Management
Supervise accounting staff, also assist in the recruitment,
Hiring and training of employees;
Prepares performance reviews and sets goals for those supervised;
Create and update as needed a documented system of procedures in the use of the administrative software and report writing and query functions;
Manage and oversee the accounts payable function with a best practices approach;
Ensure that all bank reconciliations including State Treasury accounts are performed on a monthly basis;
Interfaces & meets regularly with grants management personnel to ensure appropriate accounting for all related activities.
Keeps current with federal rules & regulations regarding the oversight of grants;
Maintain the chart of accounts as well as provide oversight of the reconciliation of all general ledger accounts;
Maintain an orderly accounting filing system including centralized journal entries with attached supporting documentation;
Prepare and/or review appropriate ledger entries prior to posting.
Assist in the review & improvement of financial system processes, aid in departmental efficiency by automating manual accounting processes;
Assist the VP for Finance and Facilities and Comptroller in the establishment, modification, documentation & coordination of the implementation of internal controls & accounting procedures.
Reporting
Issue timely and complete internal financial information - Daily, Weekly and Monthly- to internal constituencies, ensure that month end close process occurs in a timely manner;
Assist in the preparation of the College's annual financial statements and tax reporting, as well as audit preparations;
Assist in the preparation of the monthly and annual budget and forecasts;
Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management;
Provide for a system of management cost reports;
Provide financial analysis as needed.
Compliance
Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings including but not limited to 1099s and IRS Form 990 filings;
Work closely with Director of Student Accounts to ensure federal and state compliance associated with such funding as Title IV, as well as ensuring the processing of payments are correctly accounted for;
Complete preliminary State Comptroller's internal control questionnaire, risk assessment and review of risk areas;
Maintaining and reconciling fixed assets schedules

Maintains a standard of superior service to all customers, fosters and maintains positive relationships and works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.
Other duties as deemed necessary for the benefit of this institution or as assigned by the VP and/or Comptroller.
Participates in administrative staff meetings, institutional meetings, institutional events/functions and various seminars.
Plays an essential role in the management of financial queries/report building with data from the administrative computer system (Jenzabar EX). In addition, working in conjunction with IT, is responsible for maintaining the Jenzabar enterprise system, ensuring that all modules are fully integrated and working smoothly.
Advanced computer literacy required, preferably including the use of lnfoMaker, Jenzabar EX, Access and SQL.

Job Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in accounting or related business field
5 years of progressively hands-on accounting experience.
Ability to work with limited supervision.
Exceptional initiative and ability to take ownership of projects.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Excellent academic and professional track record.
Ability to act and react in a flexible, fast paced environment.
Knowledge of computerized accounting programs, experience with Commonwealth of Massachusetts accounting systems preferred.
Demonstrated skill and proficiency in oral and written communication.

Location: Roxbury campus. This position will be eligible for a maximum of two days of telework in accordance with the College's telework policy.
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday thru Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm
