About the Department and Unit
The Business, Engineering, and Entrepreneurship department is a cluster of dynamic, service-oriented, and user-centered unit libraries that partner with Business, Engineering, Computing and Information Science, and the broader Cornell community to support the teaching, research, and experiential missions of Cornell University. Additionally, the department works collaboratively to create innovative and evolving library services for entrepreneurship initiatives in Ithaca and the Cornell Tech campus in New York City.
The Opportunity

As the Reference Assistant at the Management Library, you will work as part of a team to support business information needs, primarily by delivering in-person and digital reference services. You will answer directional, database-specific, and fundamental subject-specific reference questions. You will also teach users how to create appropriate research strategies and how to use library databases/other sources and evaluate found information. There is also the opportunity to create and maintain web pages, frequently asked questions, research guides, video scripts, and Canvas content that support research, teaching, and learning initiatives. Finally, you will be continuously learning and contributing to the Business, Engineering, and Entrepreneurship team.
Reference services at the Management Library are delivered from 11:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., Monday-Friday. The hours for this position are 11:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., Monday-Thursday (20 hours per week total); however, there may be some flexibility in this schedule if needed.
This is a 20-hour per week position with 3 days on site and 1 day remote. Your specific hybrid schedule is mutually determined and agreed upon between you and your supervisor.

- Bachelor's degree or other formal training program of four years.
- One to two years of relevant, successful customer service or public services work experience.
- Evidence of excellent written and oral communication skills.

- Demonstrated ability to foster positive work relationships and the ability to collaborate in a team environment.
- Evidence of excellent analytical and problem-solving skills in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and communication platforms such as Slack, wikis, WordPress, etc.
- Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, inclusion, and wellbeing.

- Library experience, particularly in public services.
- Experience in training or teaching of complex resources or processes.
