JOB SUMMARY:Reporting to the VP of Marketing and Communications, the primary responsibilities of the Director of Strategic Communications and Engagement are to manage and direct all relevant aspects of the development, coordination, and implementation of AARC and Daedalus engagement and communication. This work is done in coordination with the marketing, communications and creative team and executive leadership. In your role, you will be supporting the efforts to ensure the AARC maintains a positive public image and that content follows brand messaging guidelines and supports the strategic plan, mission, and vision. In support of our DE&I principles, you will be developing DE&I content and leading the Engagement and Media team in producing high-quality, relevant, and compelling content for members and future members.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Engage with senior leadership to develop key messaging, themes, topics, and target audiences, aligning with the organization’s strategic plan, mission, and vision.
Establish and drive a multi-channel engagement strategy for the AARC, as well as Daedalus (publishing) and the ARCF (foundation) as needed.
Oversee and assist in content development, coordination, and implementation of all engagement/communication material, such as program resources, website content, campaigns, newsletters, emails, and multimedia content including digital, video, audio, and print assets.
Manage media relations and develop contacts with media members. Work alongside PR firm to ensure AARC is regularly visible in national media.
Lead the Engagement and Media team, including the Content Manager and freelance writers. Create and manage annual budget.
Assist in developing social media and engagement toolkits for affiliates and other AARC partners.
Interview and record key members and stakeholders to create content to engage and retain membership.
Identify, write, and edit a broad range of member, stakeholder, and executive-level communications in multiple formats.
Lead and support annual programs such as HOSA, RC Week, Apex and Fly-In Day.
Advise Advocacy, Membership, Education, Convention and Customer Service departments regarding associated activities.
Define, implement, and measure KPIs for engagement strategies, messages, processes, tools, techniques, and delivery approaches.
Co-develop event strategy/implementation, attend AARC-owned and non-AARC meetings and events as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Education
Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or related field required.
Minimum Experience
7 or more years of communications, marketing, public relations, or related experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Proven ability to manage people and projects.
Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency with communications technologies.
Impeccable copywriting and copy-editing abilities.
Excellent proofreading skills. Ability to apply AP Style.
Working knowledge of content management systems and marketing automation. HTML coding knowledge a plus.
Familiarity with social media platforms and social media marketing.
Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills.
Must possess and demonstrate critical thinking skills and ability to problem solve and offer solutions where appropriate. Ability to oversee highly detailed projects and execute on time.
Ability to travel a few times per year up to one week per trip.
