The Department of Art at Skidmore College invites applications for a tenure-track, full-time Assistant Professor position in Communication or Graphic Design beginning September 2024. Candidates should have a knowledge of a diverse range of approaches in the field of communication or graphic design. Our curriculum has historically emphasized typography, branding, and publication design through traditional and emerging technologies (i.e. interactive and motion design). We seek a skilled designer with a demonstrated record of creative practice and expertise in teaching at the undergraduate level. (Teaching experience beyond the Teaching Assistant level is desirable). As the head of a single-faculty area, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing curriculum and the oversight and management of the design studio. Art faculty teach nine courses over two academic years, alternating between five courses one year and four courses the next. Additionally, faculty mentor students and periodically teach a course in Skidmoreâ™s First-Year Experience. Other commitments include advising students and serving on department and college committees.

REQUIREMENTS:
MFA, MDes or equivalent terminal degree in design
Active record of recognized professional activity and creative engagement in design
Fluency in Mac OS, Adobe Creative Suite, and industry-standard print and web design software

Experience teaching design at the college level
A representative sample of syllabi, including detailed descriptions of specific assignments
