The English Department at Old Dominion University invites applications for a Lecturer of General Education Literature & Composition. This 10-month renewable appointment begins on July 25, 2024, and includes opportunities for summer teaching. The search committee is especially interested to hear from candidates who can demonstrate an ability and willingness to contribute to supporting professional development efforts toward anti-racism, accessibility, and innovation in our English general education program.

We seek applications from candidates who can teach composition and/or literature, with courses assigned based on experience and expertise. Lecturers primarily teach 100-level genre-based composition courses, WAC/WID 200-level composition courses, and/or 100-level literature courses, but may also be called on to teach courses in their area of expertise, dependent upon programmatic needs. The position carries a 4/4 teaching load and service to two departmental committees.

Required Qualifications:

1. Applicants must have completed all M.A. or M.F.A. requirements in English or a related field by July 24, 2024.
2. Applicants must also have expertise and experience teaching composition and/or literature.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Doctoral-level graduate work or degree in rhetoric, composition, writing studies, or literature.
• Preparation and/or experience teaching introductory-level courses in both literature and composition at the college level.
• Expertise in one or more of the following: literary and cultural studies; LatinX/African American/Native American/Asian American literatures; queer writers; WAC/WID composition; digital writing; technical writing; ALP models of General Education English.
• Expertise and experience in pedagogies such as multi-modality, anti-racism, and/or universal design
