About the Opportunity
The Department of Theatre in the College of Arts, Media and Design, invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track position in Theatrical Design & Technology. We seek candidates with a record of significant professional theatre and/or interdisciplinary creative practice, innovative pedagogy, and relevant teaching experience in technical theatre and intersecting areas of theatrical design such as Lighting Design, Projection Design and/or Scenic Design. The new faculty member could also engage in interdisciplinary research in areas such as digital performance, immersive performance design, interactive media for performance and human computer interactions.
The successful candidate must have the necessary qualifications and the ability to be appointed at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Teaching Professor (non-tenured) commencing August, 2024. The teaching load is 3 classes per semester with the possibility of summer classes for extra compensation. Significant creative practice research projects, such as designing for the department's production program, may result in a workload modification. There is a small service load attached: serving on departmental committee and coordinating the technical and electrics aspects of our production program while providing mentorship to students. The salary is competitive and will be commensurate with experience.
Candidates must have a terminal degree in a theatre discipline (MFA or PhD) completed prior to the start of the appointment and teaching experience at the college level. Candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in and capacity for delivering undergraduate fundamentals. Candidates should have experience in, or a commitment to, working with diverse student populations in a culturally diverse work and educational environment. PhD or MFA in Theatre or related field, or equivalent professional experience;
Record of teaching excellence in higher education, with explicit evidence of exceptional mentoring skills, cultural competency, and success with students at early stages of professional artistic development;
Evidence of ongoing creative output with a regional/national reputation;
Evidence of successful collaborative partnerships; such as those with other academic units, within the community, and at an national level;
Connection to and awareness of trends in the fields of theatre and the creative industries.
Professional proficiency in Vectorworks 2D & 3D spaces +/- AutoCAD, Lightwright, ETC EOS software, and Augment3d. Ideally, additional proficiency in Bonus Watchout and/or Cue Lab
