Coordinator of Financial Aid
MCCC Unit Professional position, Grade 6
Campus Location: Lynn/Danvers campus, 4 days on site, 1 day remote (telework is subject to change based on the needs of the department and/or College)
SALARY RANGE: Anticipated starting salary is $64,615.00 - $69,923.00. Actual salary will be commensurate with education and experience in accordance with the MCCC/MTA collective bargaining agreement. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The purpose of this position is to administer the planning, organization, and administration of federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs, including grants, scholarships, loans, and student employment. Employees in this classification perform the administrative function of coordinating all activities within the Financial Aid Office. These responsibilities include fund management, strategic planning, and regulatory compliance with all sponsoring agencies. Provide leadership in policy development for the college community, supervise, train, and evaluate staff. Position requires the ability to interpret and analyze data, and be accountable for all decisions made. Develop equitable packaging policies, determine financial aid eligibility, file review, coordinate the dissemination of financial aid information, counsel and advise students, and record maintenance.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides detailed and comprehensive academic counseling and advising to students on financial options and application procedures to current and potential students, including but not limited to information on: program specific academic and financial requirements and options; career advising; course selection and sequencing in the context of financial aid requirements; pre and co-requisites; and program change and transitional program issues. Assists and advises prospective, incoming, and current students in the planning and implementing of their educational, career, and personal goals and objectives.
Assist the Director in yearly updates to financial aid procedures and awarding practices and packaging formulas
Determines eligibility for federal, state, and institutional financial aid; determines types/amount of aid to offer based on formulas and individual situations; awards aid to eligible students; documents aid awarded in computer; generates award notifications; performs packaging of financial aid awards; and reviews/monitors fund reports for funds available to be awarded.
Provide advice and support in making appropriate educational decisions and academic program choices in the context of financial planning
Performs administrative duties related to compliance with federal and state financial aid regulations.
Participates in the evaluation of financial services activities to assess their effectiveness in assisting students to pursue and achieve their goals.
Demonstrates a thorough working knowledge of NSCC, federal, and state policies, procedures, and programs and applies that knowledge to individual situations to assist students, parents, faculty, staff, and all community constituencies.
Maintains a strong knowledge and self-sufficiency in the day to day processing of the Banner Financial Aid and Student Accounts modules and assists in the implementation of enhancements, including digital imaging, in conjunction with the Director.
Responsible for data collection and some data entry; maintaining documentation relevant to financial services, including preparation of written reports; interacting with IT and IR on the development and request of specialized reports.
Serves on committees and/or teams as assigned or deemed necessary
May be responsible for one or more of the following:
Manages the disbursement of all funds
Coordinates the Pell Grant Program
Coordinates the Direct Loan Program
Reviews attendance alerts
Process R2T4 calculations
Adjusts accounts for Stale Dated Checks
End of Semester F report process
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Director of Financial Aid
Requirements:
Master's Degree and two (2) years professional level experience in a college financial aid office, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience required.
Knowledge of Federal Title IV statute and applicable regulations and knowledge of state financial aid regulations preferred.
Excellent oral and written communications skills; ability to effectively interact with students and families in difficult circumstances and to explain complex requirements clearly and concisely.
High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office and Internet software; familiarity with an integrated student records system required.
Versatility and flexibility to succeed as a member of a self-directed team in a student-centered work environment.
Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and/or National background check as a condition of employment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Strong knowledge of the community college system working with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
Knowledge of COD, NSLDS, CPS and FSA access
Ability to communicate effectively with different groups/individuals.
Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
Bilingual Spanish is preferred.
