Provides day-to-day management of over 120 service-learning courses each year located in all 7 schools and colleges that contributes towards APU’s prestigious Carnegie classification. Collaborate with faculty and community partners to oversee academic service-learning project management, program evaluation, communications and community partner development. Recruit, train and supervise the daily work of graduate interns and undergraduate workers as it relates to program activities including appropriate challenge, support and accountability. Empower graduate and undergrad student interns in the relationship building and support of outside agencies, APU faculty and students leading to the highest level of reciprocity and quality service-learning. Required functions include risk management, insurance coverage, design and implementation of memorandum of understanding, budget management, and the involvement of the APU General Counsel. Work with the Director in the fulfillment of the mission of the Center as it relates to the Christian mission of APU through a comprehensive understanding of, support for and commitment to quality service-learning programming.
Required Education
Bachelor’s required. Master’s degree preferred (management, community development, leadership, or education preferred) with demonstrated experience.
Required Experience
Experience with risk management, MOU development, insurance requirements, budget planning and monitoring, and legal issues related to community experiential learning, or related activities preferred. Proven ability to create and maintain thriving relationships with a variety of internal and external partners in a complex system. Experience with diverse populations. Management experience including: student staff recruitment, training, delegation, supervision, mentoring, evaluation Experience in the coordination of multiple projects. Additional preferred experience with service-learning, community partner relations, community-engaged learning, community development, evaluation/assessment.
Primary Duties/Essential Functions
Academic Service-Learning Course Projects
Manage all aspects of service-learning risk management, insurance coverage, design and implementation of memorandum of understanding, budget management, and the involvement of the APU General Counsel. Consult with faculty using best practices and research-based approaches to integrating service-learning outcomes in course, project, and critical reflection design. Collaborate with diverse service-learning faculty and community partners to oversee and lead the coordination, implementation, tracking, and assessment of service-learning course projects, ensuring reciprocity, mutual benefit, and academic outcomes. Represent the center on and off-campus, serving as the main contact for academic service-learning faculty and community partners. Maintain direct responsibility for daily management, oversight, communication, and development for local service-learning projects. Attend projects and provide logistical support as needed. Oversee the tracking, data collection and reporting for all service-learning related items (student service credits, courses, faculty, partners, etc) for the center.
Supervision of Student Staff
Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate undergraduate and graduate student interns. Provide leadership and oversee training students by providing faculty and community partners with logistical support in service-learning projects. Including planning and implementing staff training events. Coach student interns in professional development to increase both effectiveness and efficiency.
Service-Learning Partnership Development and Support
Coordinate with the Director in strategic recruitment and support of service-learning partners in response to current or future needs. Maintain communication to provide updated information regarding changes, site needs, and potential partnership opportunities. Implement processes for partner feedback and disseminate information to stakeholders. Provide resources and support for service-learning partners to increase levels of understanding of service-learning and mutual expectations.
Other
Seek active engagement with university priorities through various opportunities such as Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs and events, training offered by Human Resources, academic enrichment sessions across campus, etc. Lead and participate in staff meetings. Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands
Requires repetitive motion and sitting at a computer keyboard. Hearing and speaking on the telephone. Meetings may require walking and/or driving to various University and community locations. Ability to pull, push, bend, grasp, reach and lift up to 20 lbs.

Office work, but some lifting related to events, some driving.

Pleasant office, comfortable temperatures.
Technologies
Proficient in Google Apps (docs, sheets) and Microsoft Office.
Compensation
Grade 8: $21.44 - $24.66 is the hourly compensation for this role and reflects what Azusa Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on the qualifications, experience, and internal equity. In addition to compensation, APU offers a competitive benefits package.
