Job Overview
The Associate Director of Communications is a critical contributor to the successful execution of the McDonough School of Business communications strategy by ensuring that the activities surrounding faculty research, thought leadership, student successes, and programmatic differentiators are communicated to both internal (McDonough and GU faculty, staff, students, and alumni) and external (business leaders, employers, prospective students, influencers, etc.) audiences.
They will establish a communications strategy in collaboration with the directors and communications staff from each center and initiative, while also serving as a liaison between centers, admissions, advancement, and Dean's Office staff, to ensure there is alignment and coordination on all communications and marketing projects to support the school's goals.
As well, the Associate Director works more broadly to assist with media outreach and communications strategies for school-wide programs.
Work Interactions
Reporting to the Georgetown McDonough Director of Marketing and Communications, the Associate Director they will have contact with all levels of University administration, alumni, students, and faculty.
As well, they will coordinate with all members of the Office of Marketing and Communications, Live Wire Media Relations, Events, and Alumni and External Relations teams, as well as with the Dean's Office; and will coordinate throughout Georgetown regarding related centers and initiatives at other schools, as well as with staff in central communications.
Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor's degree - preferably in communications, marketing, or related field
3 to 5 years of progressively responsible communications or marketing experience
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including proofreading
Excellent organizational and project management skills
Exceptional time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects at once, meet tight deadlines, and adapt to shifting deadlines
Experience with website content management systems - for example, WordPress
Preferred qualifications
Experience managing clientele and stakeholders or agency experience
Experience with AP style
Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
