This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at Lightwave Avenue and remote.
DESCRIPTION
This position is part of the UC San Diego Health Department of Health Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) and works directly with the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Health Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. The CAO is also a Professor of Medicine within the UCSD Department of Medicine and an active health services/health equity researcher. Given the dual roles of the executive this position will support, the candidate selected must have a breadth of experience related to operations and research grant management. This position also works collaboratively with the Senior Director of Strategy and the Health Justice and Equity Implementation Coach on the UCSD Health JEDI team.
The Project Manager will be responsible for independently leading and directing multiple projects and/or programs of medium to large size and complexity supporting the JEDI department. This is a hands-on role, where the candidate will also participate in research documentation, applications, and submissions to various agencies and journals. This role will drive communication and collaboration on high-profile initiatives and research projects within and across UCSD Health JEDI, UCSD Schools of Medicine and Public Health to address top priority efforts to optimize operations and research.
This is a high-level project management position in a demanding and matrixed academic medical center environment that requires strong leadership and interpersonal skills, and a comprehensive understanding of all elements of health care delivery and health services research.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Utilize broad technical knowledge of project management, specialized knowledge of the organization's mission/business needs, and the healthcare industry in general to manage large-scale projects and programs that further system-wide goals related to JEDI and health equity.
Develops and maintains a project/program schedule and critical path that allows drill-down to activity level schedules. All interfaces among component projects and those external to the body of work are identified, tracked, and controlled.
Monitor progress of multiple projects simultaneously.
Builds skills and capacity of other JEDI team members to effectively manage projects they are leading.
Facilitate multi-organizational collaboration on requests, prioritization, and forecasting amongst senior executives.
Manages all aspects of research, including: preparing research funding applications; creating and managing budgets, completion and submission of IRB applications pertaining to human subject and HIPPA issues; writing progress reports and research; preparation of manuscripts and reports for submission to funding agencies, professional meetings, and journals.
Assess business needs and recognize research grant management next steps to create plans to address requirements and implement solutions in alignment with strategic goals.
Manages the relationships and interfaces with multiple departments by acting as a liaison with Senior Leadership and initiative champions.
Provides hands-on leadership and process subject matter expertise to project/program teams and senior level management.
Build and maintain superior client relations.
Travel to sites and work in client designated areas as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Advanced degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience; MBA, MPH, MHA (preferred).
Minimum of Five (5) years of experience in a health care related field. Experience must include overseeing and managing the planning, design, and implementation of large-scale projects related to health services delivery and research.
Knowledge and experience utilizing project management, change management, and process improvement methodologies in a complex environment.
Applied knowledge of project management best practices and frameworks such as PMI's Body of Knowledge or System Development Lifecycle.
Demonstrated ability to manage large complex projects from development of funding applications through project implementation, close out of funding, and dissemination of research projects
