Job Overview
The Director of Clery Compliance serves as the principal institutional official responsible for the implementation of federal, local, and campus requirements policies and regulations relating to campus safety and crime reporting. They working collaboratively with various offices at the University to ensure institutional compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act) and associated regulations.
They provide leadership, direction, and integration for Clery Act compliance across the Georgetown University enterprise, as well as to separate campus and non-campus properties; and manage the timely preparation, submission and dissemination of required reports, logs, documents and records, including the Annual Security Report (ASR); as well as training to relevant members of the Georgetown community on Clery Act compliance topics.
Their work involves significant coordination with individuals and offices both within and outside the university, and entails exposure to - and the need to manage appropriately - highly sensitive and confidential information.
Work Interactions
Reporting to and under the general direction of the Associate Vice-President for Public Safety, the Director of Clery Compliance works to promote compliance with the Jeanne Clery Act across the Georgetown University enterprise. They provide accurate collection and reporting of crimes and other Clery Act data, which is critical at all levels across the enterprise, including the Main Campus, Medical Campus, Capitol Campus, School of Continuing Studies and other Georgetown-owned or controlled properties both domestic and abroad.
They work closely with Georgetown University Police Department (GUPD), Law Center Department of Public Safety, Office of Student Conduct, Title IX and the Fire Safety Team to ensure proper training, data collection, and reporting.
As well, the develop strong relationships with Human Resources to properly identify and interact with Campus Security Authorities (CSA); lead a team that includes GUPD and the General Counsel's Office to develop, review, and timely distribute the Annual Security Report each year; and interact with the Office of Compliance and Ethics and the Associate Vice-President for Compliance and Ethics.
Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, or a related field - preference for advanced degree in Communications, Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Law or related field
At least 3 to 5 years of experience in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, or a related field - preference for relevant work experience at or with an institution of higher education
Significant working knowledge of criminal laws and the laws and regulations associated with the Clery Act, Department of Education mandates, and related federal and local laws and regulations including FERPA; and the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA)
Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
Well-developed skill in collecting, organizing, manipulating, and analyzing various types of data and information using computer software applications and databases
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to make decisions with little or no supervision
Preferred Qualifications
5 years of direct experience managing a Clery Act compliance program, including drafting the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report and classifying Clery crimes and disciplinary referrals
Advanced Clery Act Training
Experience with police or public safety records management systems
Experience in preparing and delivering instructional and training materials
Experience in project management
Experience in working with on campus hospitals and medical centers
Knowledge about working with international campuses and programs
