Engineering IT Shared Services at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign seeks applicants for an Instructional Technology Facilitator. We are the IT services provider for the nationally-ranked Grainger College of Engineering, providing services for teaching, research, and learning. The Instructional Technology Facilitator focuses on obtaining IT services for faculty and instructors to enhance their teaching activities in the Grainger College of Engineering. This role will be primarily to learn about each instructor's work and identify and locate solutions to support this work. The position also works to identify and advocate for new and/or modified IT services that will be required to support evolving instructional programs. This position engages regularly with the Director of Engineering IT Shared Services on forward-looking strategy for Instructional Technology.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Customer Service and Support Meeting regularly with faculty/instructors to learn about and understand their current and future instructional activities and needs, without assuming any particular solutions. Providing instructors with information on services and resources available to them at the local, campus, regional, and national levels. Assisting instructors with identifying technologies, resources, and services to support their instructional activities. Connect them to identified resources and services as well as experts on and off campus who can assist with using those resources and services. Bridging connections between individual instructors throughout Engineering and the broader campus who have similar technology needs and interests. Maintaining the level of confidentiality required by each individual instructor regarding the information shared about their instructional design, including course content and assessment methods. Maintaining awareness and understanding of the general instructional activities within Engineering at Illinois. Staying current with trends in instruction and information technology that may impact the future needs and interests of instructors. Advising and assisting instructors in addressing University policies and state and federal regulations regarding information technology (e.g. data security, access controls, licensing, accessibility, privacy). Building and maintaining partnerships and a presence with stakeholders across the college, on other campuses, and nationally. Actively engaging with campus instructional technology activities such as MOOCs (Coursera), Canvas, Kaltura, and organizations such as CITL, AE3, and Tech Services.
Project and Task Delivery Managing projects at the organizational, divisional, or team level and drive deliverables and results by designated deadlines. Completing individual projects and tasks assigned by supervisor on time with quality. Actively seeking out and delivering solutions to unresolved problems inside and outside of the organization.
Organizational Support Initiating action with various teams within Engineering IT Shared Services to ensure outstanding service delivery to customers. As needed, serving as a trainer, mentor, or coach to junior staff. Promoting use of and implementing centralized services where practical and align them to the unique needs of unit or customers. Working and leading cross-functional teams, with limited authority for final decision making.
Services & Resources Development Advising Assistant Director of Instructional Services on long-term strategic planning and emerging technologies and practices in the field. Identifying gaps in available IT services and resources based on feedback from instructors about their needs and developing proposals, position papers, and whitepapers to define the requirements for services and resources to fill these gaps. Participating, leading, and partnering with college units, faculty, and colleagues in Engineering IT in R&D initiative to develop new resources, services, and practices for researchers and instructors.
Other Duties as Assigned
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Four (4) years of professional experience in an Information Technology (IT) related profession in a higher education setting. College coursework that includes Information Technology (IT), IT Management, Programming, IT systems, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent: 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months) Associate's Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months) 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months) Bachelor's Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months) Experience in IT operations or service delivery. Customer service experience. Experience with learning technologies related to research.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in STEM field. Experience as an instructor in higher education, particularly teaching in STEM fields. Professional experience and/or training in facilitation. Experience writing technology proposals. Advanced business analysis, project management, and/or planning certification. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Familiarity with campus instructional resources, available LMSs, instructional technology. Familiarity with university policies and state laws related to information technology and research. Strong active listening skills. Demonstrated ability to build professional networks and relationships. Excellent communication skills (oral and written). Demonstrated requirements-gathering skills. Ability to translate IT issues and services for non-IT audiences. Ability to perform in-depth research on topics and issues. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Proven record of customer service excellence. Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize requests, and escalate appropriately. Advanced business analysis, project management, and/or planning skills.
APPOINTMENT INFORMATION This is a full-time Civil Service Information Technology Technical Associate position appointed on a 12-month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. The minimum salary for this position is $77,100 and is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Hybrid work options may be available for this position, with the ability to be on-site as needed. Work authorization is not available for this position.
