Job Summary
Under general supervision of the Specialties Supervisor and the Oncology Service, provide a high degree of technical support to the service. Primary responsibilities will be assessment of patient status and communication of those findings to the clinician, administering prescribed treatments using proper safety protocols. Instructing veterinary students, interns and residents in paraveterinary techniques, chemotherapy safety and various other veterinary procedures, including preparing anesthetic protocols, inducing, and monitoring anesthesia. This position will be responsible for assisting the clinicians with operation of the Linear Accelerator, quality assurance, and patient treatment.
Applicants will be screened on a weekly basis. The position can be filled prior to the removal date.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
-Maneuver/lift equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds. -Handle animals weighing up to 75 pounds. -Stand, bend, and kneel for 8-10 hour shifts. -Transport patients in carriers, on leashes, on gurneys and move patients on and off gurneys and in and out of cages. -Contact with animals, including restraint of animals (sometimes fractious) as required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work occasional overtime and various hours on short notice (including covering staff shortages and holiday shifts).
Work under Medical Surveillance procedures and review in accordance with Federal and State Laws and Regulations and University Policy.
Work under regular exposure to zoonotic diseases, anesthesia, chemotherapy drugs, cleaning chemicals and exposure to radioactive patients.
May be required to wear protective clothing for extended periods of time including: gown, coveralls, gloves, masks, face shields, goggles, sleeves and head covers.
May require working with or around areas with sick animals, hazardous materials, and/or infectious diseases, and distraught clients.
Employee is personally responsible for following health and safety guidelines/instructions.
Work in other related areas on an as needed basis.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum License/Certification:
Current California Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license.
Minimum Education/Experience:
Experience premedicating, inducing, maintaining, and monitoring patient under anesthesia and applying monitoring equipment.
Experience operating basic anesthesia equipment, i.e., anesthesia machines, ventilators and various monitoring and lab equipment.
Experience with medical terminology and able to communicate verbally, and in writing, with a wide variety of people professionally and diplomatically.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):
Knowledge of basic oncology diseases.
Skill to assist with the development of anesthesia protocols appropriate for patients and maintain patients during anesthesia.
Knowledge of diagnostic procedures such as CT, MRI and digital radiography policies governing animal use.
