Document Delivery provides access to locally available library materials and items borrowed from other institutions. The department is a high-volume production environment, Document Delivery is made up of four services: 1) Local Document Delivery delivers U-M Library materials to U-M Ann Arbor patrons, 2) Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Borrowing obtains materials not owned by U-M Library for U-M Ann Arbor, Flint and Dearborn patrons; 3) ILL Lending provides U-M Library materials to other institutions; 4) Delivery Service for both ILL and Local books to Ann Arbor campus department offices.
You will spend part of the day attending to the daily operations at the Health Science Library's remote storage (HSRS) facility housing about .5 million bound volumes; and part of your day shipping approximately 30k annual Document Delivery requests using approved vendors, such as FedEx, UPS, etc. Responsibilities include processing of Document Delivery requests and stacks maintenance of the HSRS collection; Maintain and update addresses in shipping databases.

Reporting Structure
You will report to the Resource Sharing Manager for External Patrons, which is part of Document Delivery, a department within the Collections division.
Supervisory Experience
You may supervise student staff.
Oversee filling daily requests by retrieval and scanning at the Health Science Library's remote storage (HSRS) facility.
Help process ILL lending requests, using several electronic databases to search requests by partner institutions.
Prioritize daily shipping needs. Prepare and package all outgoing packages verifying address, costs, and using proper shipping guidelines.
Coordinate and have functional supervision over student shipping staff.
Maintain documentation for shipping policies and training materials.
Thoughtfully answer questions and explain policies to other institutions, patrons, or shipping vendors by telephone, email and in person.
Participate on library and departmental committees and attend departmental meetings.
Stay informed on relevant interlibrary loan issues and practices through professional reading, conferences, workshops, or similar activities.
High school diploma and one to two years of library or office experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
Experience prioritizing and handling multiple assignments and deadlines simultaneously.
Strong communication and customer service skills.
Work well in a multicultural and collaborative environment.
Typing and word processing skills
Ability to move and/or transport materials weighing up to 30 pounds.
You will work fully on-site.
