More about FP&M: The Division of Facilities Planning & Management (FP&M) is a full-spectrum service organization that builds, maintains, and operates the physical environment of the UW-Madison campus in support of the university's education, research, and outreach activities.
FP&M works behind the scenes to coordinate campus planning, manage design and construction, maintain and operate buildings and grounds, supply utility services, ensure health and safety, and provide parking and transportation services.
More on the position: This Division of Facilities Planning & Management position is a part of the Lab Delivery Program which is a team within the Capital Project & Delivery group. The Lab Delivery Program serves one of the UW's Strategic Priorities to improve the delivery timeline of laboratory renovations, which directly supports the recruitment and retention of Principal Investigators.
The working title of Field Construction Representative is responsible for construction oversight of consultants, contractors, and commissioning providers involved in the design, construction, renovation and commissioning of projects authorized by the State of Wisconsin Building Commission and/or the Board of Regents. This position ensures that all construction work performed on university facilities including buildings and physical plant infrastructure is designed, modified and constructed in accordance with regulatory and professional standards.
This position works closely and manages work in collaboration with other departments including other units within Facilities Planning and Management (FP&M), UW System Administration, the Division of Facilities Development, campus divisions and departments, and architectural/engineering consultants. The person in this role will have a high degree of independence.
Responsibilities:
Oversees a building project from start to finish. Performs day-to-day construction phase management. Promotes completion of non-capital and capital projects by developing, monitoring and managing project requirements. Reports to and receives guidance from construction leadership.
15% Receives project assignments from leadership and reviews with the project team
5% Assigns project personnel to specific phases or aspects of the project such as technical studies, product design, preparation of specifications and technical plans, and product testing
20% Ensures contractors comply with negotiated contract documents
10% Issues daily report, noncompliance notices, and cost issue log
5% Reviews preliminary and final plans and makes recommendations for improving engineering details and construction practicality
10% Oversees occupancy, turnover, and close-out process
10% Determines construction progress and resolves construction problems with project team
5% Discuss customer's goals and objectives for the project
5% General knowledge and experience across all disciplines and technical areas including electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection systems with a focus on various types of laboratories.
5% Knowledge and experience with problem-solving skills, including identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to collaboratively develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
5% Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with design consultants, contractors, project managers, agency personnel, and other members of the project team.
5% Assist the UW Lab Delivery Project Manager with project administration.

Qualifications:
A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in construction and/or project management in the renovation of laboratory and/or highly technical type spaces within higher education or similar campus-like settings. Demonstrated experience in the following areas:
1) managing building projects from inception through construction and closeout, 2) construction site planning and coordination, 3) understanding of complex utilities and MEP coordination including air/water/thermal barriers, 4) baseline knowledge of space planning, interior building materials, finishes, and interior details, and 5) developing project and construction cost estimates.
This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Minimum $90,000 ANNUAL (12 months) Depending on Qualifications The starting salary for the position is $90,000 annually but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
