We are a growing three doctor equine ambulatory practice in the Ottawa area looking to add a fourth member to our team. We have worked to launch a practice built around the goals of providing compassionate, comprehensive care to our clients with a focus on customer service, communication and education. We try to live up to these goals but as with all lofty goals we fall flat on our faces at times. We try to laugh and have fun whenever possible and commiserate together when the day is a bit rough. We are looking for an additional vet who is committed to working with clients so they can understand and be a part of their horse’s care. This often means answering a lot of questions but we try to bill for that and not devalue that side of the care process! We want you to share our values so that the work feels easier and more enjoyable.
Our practice covers routine care, dental work with hand and power equipment, sports medicine, and reproductive services. We have multiple power dental units, digital radiography and digital ultrasound, upper airway endoscopy, gastroscopy, Prostride, shockwave. Each vet has a technician or assistant with them 95% of the time on the road to help keep us efficient and allow billing and records to be created in the “down time” while we drive.
The office works a typical M-F work week but our doctors often elect to work 4 days a week with one day to ensure billing, call backs, etc are complete. After hours care is handled by the vet on call. This is shared evenly amongst the vets. Daytime emergencies are shared depending on vet availability and geography. If you want a more flexible schedule, a 4-day week, or other arrangement we are happy to work with you on those things.
Our ideal associate will be interested in the same goals we are: helping horses, teaching clients, finding the odd moment to partake in a hobby or two! If you are a new graduate applicant, we would work with you to set up a guided mentorship for your first 3-6 months with us to help ensure you feel confident when you are sent out on your own. This mentorship would vary depending on your individual needs and would be based on a discussion before you get started. If you have a specific interest within the equine field, we are very open to working with you to help you accomplish more niche career goals. If you don’t but just like to hit the conferences, enjoy the A/C and stay more generalized, that is great too!
We are happy to speak with candidates who are potentially interested in future practice ownerships options. We are one of the few equine practices in our area who are not corporately owned. This means if you work well in our practice group and want to keep building the practice with us we are open to this option! Interest in ownership is not a requirement though.
Please get in touch if you are interested in working with us! Ottawa and Ontario are great places to live and work and it is an easy transition from the US to Canada. If you are considering starting a family in the future, you will be hard pressed to find better options for supported family leave time. This is a friendly area with easy access to the city of Ottawa without the traffic of Toronto.
Salary will be commensurate with experience. Standard benefits offered include supplemental health insurance (expands dental, pharmacy and other coverage. This works in conjunction with provincial provided health coverage), provincial licensing, AAEP and OVMA dues, annual CE allowance, 3 weeks paid vacation. A work vehicle can be provided as needed.
