The College of Arts and Sciences at Fairfield University invites applications for a position of an Assistant Professor of the Practice in Digital Journalism in the Communication Department, beginning fall, 2024.
We welcome highly qualified candidates prepared to contribute to a cross-disciplinary major/minor in the Digital Journalism Program. The interdisciplinary Journalism curriculum incorporates a wide array of courses in Journalism, Communication, Film/TV, and English. Candidates must have a terminal degree in Journalism, Communication, or related areas.
This is a non-tenure track fixed term renewable position with a teaching load of four courses each semester at various levels such as Introductory News Writing, Intermediate News Writing, Sports Writing, and Feature Writing. The candidate may also teach an introductory Communication for the Magis Core.
Desired areas of specialization include multimedia news writing and sports writing. Secondary interests in literary journalism/feature writing, media law and ethics, podcasting, and student media advising are also preferred. The position will join faculty and students in the Communication and Media Arts Institute located at the Media Arts Complex to foster collaborative work across media programs and student media outlets.
We are particularly interested in candidates who are capable of teaching journalism in the context of race, gender, and other forms of diversity.
