The American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) is seeking a Director of Education and Member Experience to join our growing education team as we work to expand our impact within the neurosurgical and medical communities. This position will oversee the operations of the Education Department at AANS, including oversight of educational activities related to the Spine Section Meeting, Annual Scientific Meeting, online education and live, regional course offerings. This position will work in coordination with Meetings, Marketing and Membership teams to ensure educational offerings are aligned with and promote the AANS value proposition. The Associate Director will monitor CME processes to ensure compliance with ACCME criteria, working with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the organization’s CME portfolio adheres to all necessary requirements. This job operates in a flexible work arrangement with an expectation to be onsite 2 days a week. A qualified candidate may also support projects that are comprised the Association (AANS), the Foundation (NREF) and the data registry arms (NPA).
JOB FUNCTIONS:
Leads integrated member engagement activities; manages overall process of membership including development of annual retention and growth budgets, membership timelines, and collaborates on the recruitment and retention campaign development, production, and distribution.
Assists in the definition of membership engagement strategies; continually assess and refines communication and marketing activities in conjunction with the Marketing team to achieve goals.
Reviews membership due’s structure, value proposition and pricing to maximize member benefits, membership growth and revenue - from first contact throughout their membership journey.
Identifies and implements membership best practices and engagement tactics; recommends new products, programs, or business lines to best meet member needs and demonstrate value of membership.
Develops and implements business processes for measuring progress toward renewal and membership growth goals.
Supervises Membership team, providing direction, oversight, and coaching.
Directs and manages the education team in the oversight and streamlining of processes for all educational course and program development including online, journal CME, and in person activities. Coordinates all education programs; manages overall process including development of annual budgets, product development, production, and distribution. Develops and monitors annual budgets, education course/product calendars, production, and distribution.
Oversight of the Annual Scientific Meeting and other managed conference program development including content development and coordination across multiple departments and physician volunteers. Innovates the inclusion of abstracts and peer reviewed content into program. Incorporates the theme and education needs of the conference audience into the delivery and session outcomes.
Actively explores and identifies educational trends, learning technology and other resources available to improve instructional design and deliver online and live educational activities. Collaborates on the development of an online education strategy overseeing the integration of the strategy into course and program production and related LMS platform enhancements and expansion.
Implements adult learning best practices and programs recommending new products, programs or business lines to best meet stakeholder needs, regularly reviews education offerings, value proposition and pricing to maximize benefits, participant growth and revenue.
Responsible for the development and oversight of the system for meeting ACCME accreditation requirements including overall program evaluation, policies, procedures and required documentation for courses, enduring materials, and online CME.
Supervises Education team, providing direction, oversight, and coaching. Provides guidance and direction to ensure that projects remain up-to-date and documentation for all assigned education programs are prioritized and completed appropriately. Develops staff to enhance their skills and assist them with reaching their potential as specialists in their field.
Oversees a team of program/committee members of membership and education efforts for outreach and delivery to varied audiences. Serve as staff liaison and coordinate initiatives of member-driven committees to enhance member engagement and develop education products/programs; manage various committee projects, provide budget updates/status reports, handle logistics of meetings, and prepare materials for assigned committees.
Fulfills member volunteer requests for support on an as needed basis. Provides prompt and efficient response and resolution to each inquiry.
Perform other job-related duties, as assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS:
College degree with a minimum of 10 years related experience required. Previous association experience preferred.
Demonstrated maturity in working with physicians / physician volunteers / healthcare professionals required. Experience in a professional non-profit association or member-driven organization driving Education and member experience strategies. Previous medical association experience preferred; scientific focus preferred. Experience in leading and executing experiential programs and events that drive member engagement and meet member professional development needs.
Business acumen, including proven expertise in creating strategies based on business objectives. Strong leadership, problem solving ability, critical thinking, active listening, and quantitative analytical skills. Strong project management skills with attention to detail including the ability to coordinate workflow, determine priorities, meet deadlines, and effectively balance competing demands.
Team-centered focus with the ability to lead team efforts efficiently. Develops staff to enhance their skills and assist them with reaching their potential as specialists in their field. A proven track record of leading a service-oriented team working with members, volunteers, committees and/or clients. Comfortable with ambiguity and a proven track record of synthesizing multiple, perhaps conflicting inputs and converting them to cohesive action.
Demonstrated experience in developing continuing medical education (CME) and knowledge of ACCME requirements. Knowledgeable about the latest methodology and practical application of theories for developing programming in adult learning, continuing medical education and faculty development. Solid technology skills are required.

Customer Relationship Management (CRM)/AMS database experience, preferably iMIS, Salesforce or similar, including but not limited to analyzing reports related to member activity. Learning Management System (LMS) experience, preferably Oasis or similar, including
