Departmental Overview

The College of Engineering at UC Berkeley is recognized for its educational and research excellence, consistently ranking among the top three Engineering colleges in the United States. The Department of Bioengineering (BioE), established in 1998, is the newest Department in the College of Engineering (COE) and ranks among the top ten bioengineering programs. Bioengineering is a rapidly advancing field at the intersection of engineering, biology, and medicine which may include elements of electrical and mechanical engineering, computer science, materials science, chemistry, and biology. Founded on the principle that training in all three will equip students and researchers with unique skills, bioengineering is positioned to make the world a healthier, more sustainable, and more equitable place. The rapid growth of our faculty and student body, together with the 30- plus-year history of our Bioengineering PhD program, has produced a department that is a leader in discovery, innovation, and translation.

The Department of Bioengineering has four distinct degree programs. The Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering, a multidisciplinary and growing major intended for students who excel in the physical sciences, mathematics, and biology. The Master of Translational Medicine (MTM) program, a one-year professional masters program, offered jointly by Berkeley Bioengineering and the Department of Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences at UCSF, is designed for engineers, scientists, and clinicians who seek to bring innovative treatments and devices into clinical use. The Master of Engineering in Bioengineering (MEng) is a collaboration between Berkeley Bioengineering and the Fung Institute for Engineering Leadership, with an emphasis on engineering and entrepreneurship. A doctoral degree offered jointly between UC Berkeley-UCSF Graduate Program in Bioengineering, a unique multidisciplinary doctoral degree program with over 200 faculty from 15 departments in three colleges and two professional schools at Berkeley and 21 departments from all four professional schools at UCSF.

The Student Services Analyst will support advising staff and faculty in the Department of Bioengineering to meet the planning and analytical needs of the academic programs.

Responsibilities

30% Applies professional or research concepts to perform analysis of data and systems pertaining to moderately complex projects, policies, initiatives, / processes, and / or functions.
Creates ad-hoc reports and financial analysis to inform Director of Administration, BioE Faculty, and BRS. Conducts data analysis and provides recommendations that will be utilized to make decisions for graduate student appointments & long term planning. Develops evaluation tools to collect and analyze data to support Professional Master Degree program. Researches medical device masters programs and develops database which can be utilized by the Director of Administration and Executive Director of MTM to write a Professional Degree Supplemental Tuition renewal for the Regents of the University of California.

25% Provides a variety of analytical duties and administrative support for student service operations. Support the MTM Executive Director to manage capstone projects, which will consist of project management, managing faculty mentors, acting as an interface for company sponsors, and supporting student teams to complete projects. Collaborates with faculty, directors, and managers to develop meeting agendas and topics for Executive Committee meetings. Prior to meetings collects, prepares, and distributes research to support discussion. Determines priorities and schedules as appropriate.

20% Provides direct analytical support for student service projects in Bioengineering. Participates in administrative policy and program planning and development. As business processes change this position reviews existing information and programs, researches benchmark with peer institutions and provides streamlined best practice recommendations. Conducts gap analysis illustrating various strategic and operational issues, such as database improvements and other critical program issues.

15% Using subject matter knowledge, collects and prepares information for use in discussions, meetings of internal and external constituents.

5% Coordinates program planning and collaboration with program staff.

5% Professional Development to enhance job expertise.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
• Working knowledge of common organization- or research-specific and other computer application programs.
• Proficient in communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Proficient in ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
• Demonstrates ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
• Demonstrates ability to analyze, research and synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention to detail.
• Proficient in ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
• Working knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques.

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $28.30 to $38.51 hourly. This is a 100% FTE career position eligible for benefits.
