UCLA - Department of Theater - Assistant Professor in Pasifika Theater and Performance Studies
The UCLA Department of Theater seeks an assistant professor in Theater and Performance Studies; the position will also be affiliated with the Asian American Studies Center as part of the Native American and Pacific Islander Bruins Rising Initiative. The successful candidate will serve as one of the core faculty supervising UCLA's PhD in Theater and Performance Studies program, as well as teaching undergraduates and participating fully in a department that serves undergraduate, MFA, and PhD students. The appointment is held in the Department of Theater while service commitments will cross the Department of Theater and the Asian American Studies Center. Duties to commence Academic Year, 2024-25.

QUALIFICATIONS A terminal degree in a relevant field is required. Preference will be given to applicants who have a PhD in Theater & Performance Studies. The candidate should explain an anticipated career trajectory as a scholar. Applicants must also demonstrate evidence of research, publication, and/or community engagement in Theater & Performance Studies and Pacific Islander Studies.
SELECTION CRITERIA Research, publication and/or community engagement emphasis on Indigenous Pacific Islander and Pasifika Theater, Performance, and Theories is required.
Demonstration of commitment to one or more Indigenous Pacific Islander/Oceania communities.
Evidence of conference participation in the fields of Theater and Performance Studies as well as Pacific Islander Studies (understood broadly in a comparative and intersectional frame).
Candidates should have a strong commitment to academic publication and professional activity (inclusive of community engagement) that demonstrates the promise of excellence in the scholarly field of Theater and Performance Studies and Pacific Islander Studies (and/or allied disciplines such as Dance, Gender Studies, Religious Studies, etc.).
Ability to teach critical studies and historical courses (both general and in the area of specialization) to performing arts students in professionally oriented BA, MFA, and PhD programs. There is the possibility of teaching artistic practice as well.
Capacity to guide PhDs dissertations and otherwise guide and mentor PhD students. Capacity to work collaboratively with colleagues and commitment to administrative work. We are interested in applicants who will imagine theater practice in novel ways and will open understandings of performance.
We seek a scholar attuned to interdisciplinary collaboration with the various areas of the Department of Theater; the Department of Film, Television and Digital Media; the Center for Asian American Studies; as well as across the College of Letters and Sciences and professional schools. Appointment at Assistant Professor level.
RANK/SALARY We are seeking applicants who qualify for an appointment to a Senate Faculty position in the University of California. A reasonable estimated salary range for the position is $107,700 - $128,000, inclusive of the salary scale and off-scale salary
