Position description CITRIS Description
The Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society (CITRIS) and the Banatao Institute is a University of California Research Center focused on creating IT solutions that generate societal and economic benefits for everyone. UC Merced is recognized as one of four CITRIS campuses: UC Merced, UC Berkeley, UC Davis, and UC Santa Cruz. CITRIS at UC Merced addresses California's most pressing societal and environmental problems by leveraging cutting-edge technologies, developing novel research, and conducting outreach through student-driven initiatives, seed grants and faculty research, and community, educational and industry partnerships.
Job Description
Under the supervision of the CITRIS faculty director, the successful applicant will manage CITRIS Merced's programming and the center's operations. This position will be responsible for helping develop and maintain partnerships with researchers, administrators, staff, education partners and lead strategic development of new programs and initiatives in technology.
In cooperation with the faculty director, they will lead short- and long-term operational planning and budgeting, hire and supervise support personnel and student assistants, and provide analyses of budgetary, financial, accounting and reporting in support of programmatic needs. The managing director will also develop and coordinate CITRIS events and outreach including supervision of an extension and outreach coordinator, attending and facilitating meetings between directors, faculty, stakeholders, advisory boards and community events, and developing materials such as digital media, impact reports, reviews and white papers. Qualifications
Basic qualifications
Master's degree or equivalent
Experience editing and writing for both academic and public audiences.
Experience working on teams with differing expertise and backgrounds towards a shared goal.
Experience with either: 1) research development and implementation, 2) applications of science and technology for the benefit of society, or 3) diversity, equity, inclusion or belonging.
Demonstrated ability to independently perform a range of responsibilities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
Preferred qualifications
Master's or PhD (inc. ABD) in engineering, science, health or sustainability
Understanding or experience with the higher education system
Knowledge of university structures, policies and procedures
Experience in research-related administrative matters or experience with federal grant submission process
Demonstrated track record in effective team-building, delivering and facilitating trainings, workshops, or other meetings. Application Requirements
