Job Description The University Relations and Campus Outreach Senior Manager is responsible for all on-campus marketing and recruitment activities in the promotion of BU Study Abroad programs to the BU community. The Senior Manager will represent BU Study Abroad to students, advisors, faculty members, administrators, and other key stakeholders, with the primary goal of recruiting BU students to BU Study Abroad programs. The Senior Manager works with the Associate Director, University Relations and Campus Outreach and other constituents in creating and managing communications and marketing initiatives for BU Study Abroad (BUSA). The Senior Manager assists with developing and implementing strategic priorities as part of recruitment and marketing efforts.
Key Responsibilities/Essential Job Functions:
Lead on-campus efforts to integrate Study Abroad into campus culture and serve as primary recruiter and spokesperson at University-wide events, including, but not limited to: Open Houses, Summer and Winter Orientation, Departmental Panels/Events, Family & Friends Weekend, FY101 classes, Study Abroad Expos, Informational Tables and sessions. Schedule, and coordinate logistics for all outreach events and ensure the website's calendar of events calendar is current. (30%)
Drive marketing and communication efforts (print and digital), in consultation with other members of the Study Abroad Outreach and Marketing team and the Global Programs marketing team'. Initiate new types of marketing collateral as constituent needs are identified, write and edit copy, create PPT deck presentations and other strategic materials as needs are determined. Provide support for all social media efforts. On occasion, work with other BU constituents such as Marketing and Communications and BU Today. (25%)
Manage the BU Study Abroad Alumni program and supervise student employee(s) on event development, publicity campaigns, personal outreach, and follow-up. Coordinate with Student Ambassadors to provide support to Study Abroad Enrollment Services team for pre-departure meetings and other student events. (20%)
Develop contacts and maintain close relationships with key faculty members, advisors, departments, and BU offices on campus such as Howard Thurman Center, Career Development, The Newbury Center, First Year Success Advising, etc. to increase BU Study Abroad's visibility campus wide. Foster these relations by ensuring that said parties receive regular communication about relevant Study Abroad initiatives including, but not limited to MailChimp campaigns. Conceive of strategies to strengthen these partnerships through joint activities/events for student audience, as well as for informational/training purposes aimed at advisors and faculty. Serve as a liaison on departmental/administrative committees across the University, as appropriate. (10%)
Assist the Associate Director, University Relations & Campus Outreach with overall marketing and communications strategy and with building BU Study Abroad's brand recognition and value proposition to all internal and external stakeholders. Participate in the development and implementation of BUSA's communication and recruitment strategy and priorities. Assist in monitoring and evaluating ROI of recruitment and promotion efforts and help to identify advertising and other creative opportunities to elevate BU Study Abroad's brand on campus and industry wide. In collaboration with Associate Director, University Relations and Campus Outreach, develop a systematic way of communicating about campus outreach activities to the BU Study Abroad team, including the coordination and solicitation of assistance from other units of Study Abroad, where appropriate. (10%)
Participate in General Advising and on occasion, represent BU Study Abroad at study abroad fairs for selected feeder schools as assigned; coordinate pre-visit planning, complete recruiting report; and ensure any requisite follow-up. Participate in industry conferences. Other duties as assigned. (5%)
Required Skills A cover letter is encouraged for consideration.
Bachelors Degree required in higher education, public relations, communications, or related field.
Two to four years of direct experience in recruitment required. Study abroad recruitment or other international education recruitment experience strongly preferred. Detailed knowledge of domestic and international higher education.
Excellent administrative and organization skills with the ability to effectively coordinate a large variety of activities.
Familiarity with social media in the recruitment landscape.
Strong customer service skills with the ability to resolve issues fairly, expediently, and cost-effectively.
Superior written and verbal communication skills adaptable to all types of audiences including students, parents, faculty, Academic Consortium Board members, employees, and industry partners.
Experience in public speaking and formal presentations.
Ability to work through and resolve a wide range of issues and be an exemplary ambassador of BU Study Abroad and its mission and programs.
Ability to function well in a complex institutional framework, have a high tolerance for ambiguity and flexibility, and be able to respond quickly and appropriately to changing circumstances.
A strong command of the Microsoft Office package and databases.
Must be able to work some evenings and weekends, and work with a high degree of independence.
