Working under the general supervision of the Technical Director, the incumbent will maintain and repair the audio and computer equipment located in the Music Department. The incumbent will construct and install new equipment as necessary. This position works with and assists Music Department faculty on their audio and computer projects, and plans and develops studio and classroom facilities.
Budgeted Salary:$30.51 - $33.45/hourly. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience. Under California law, the University of California, Santa Cruz is required to post a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. The salary shown above is the budgeted amount the University reasonably expects to pay and the salary extended should not exceed this posted amount.

30% - Maintenance and Repair
Maintain and repair audio and computer equipment in the electronic music studios, recording facility, and classrooms in the Music Department. Research and familiarization with current audio/visual technology, systems and software and research into how it is changing and developing.
30% - Electronic Music Studio Management
Oversee electronic music studios, including scheduling, purchasing, and resale of supplies, keeping the studio in generally good condition, and supervising student assistant.
10% - Faculty Assistance
Work with faculty on their audio and computer projects as a consultant and assistant as needed.
10% - Studio Development
Plan and develop the studios and classroom facilities, in collaboration with faculty and other technical staff.
10% - Electronics Fabrication and Modification
Perform electronics fabrication and modification, occasional construction, and/or installation of new equipment for connections, control, and user access.
10% - Facilities Assistance
Work with recording services engineer and concert hall manager as needed, and where facilities and projects intersect.
Working knowledge of techniques and standards of current electronic music systems, professional audio and music technology, analog and digital synthesis ideas, a variety of current software music systems (DAWS, synthesis and compositional language systems, and other computer music applications).
Demonstrated experience of basic hardware abilities, sufficient to effect minor repairs and install classroom and studio audio systems, maintain music software platforms for a wide user base (departmental and electronic music students).
Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, faculty and staff.
Demonstrated ability to evaluate studio and classroom equipment requirements, prepare and maintain budgets, and implement development plans.
Demonstrated ability to stay current in the field of electronic music.
Demonstrated commitment to embracing diversity in all its forms and striving for an inclusive community that fosters an open, enlightened, and productive environment.
Experience in live sound reinforcement, using current digital mixing consoles, including but not limited to western and non-western music such as electronic music, early music, orchestral music, etc.
Experience in performance lighting.
Experience overseeing or running performances or productions, including working with house or state staff, students, professional musicians and/or faculty.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
