Position Summary:
The Department of Africana and American Studies (AAS) at University at Buffalo (UB), The State University of New York is recruiting for a tenure-track faculty colleague at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.
We seek a scholar whose research, teaching and practice center on the intersection between the digital and visual. The ideal candidate would be a scholar whose work sits at the intersection of the digital or the visual paying attention to both – singularly and together. We seek candidates who are concerned with the wide and significant debates on Black representation and its many forms, genres, theoretical, conceptual, and practical turns, phases, debates, dialogues, and conversations.
The candidate should hold a PhD in Black Studies, Africana Studies or an equivalent or relevant field with a focus on Black people and Black life.
Scholars working in areas of expertise across the Black world are encouraged to apply. We seek candidates whose work is both national and international in its focus and reach and can concentrate on the geographical areas of, for example, the Caribbean, Africa, USA, Latin and South America, Canada, Europe, or the UK.

Standard duties for academic-year (10-month) faculty members in AAS at UB, an R1 University and AAU member institution, include maintaining a strong research program; teaching two courses per semester, including undergraduate courses and graduate seminars; mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, including training graduate students and advising PhD dissertations; and providing service to the Department and University.

Minimum Qualifications:
PhD in Africana Studies, Black Studies, African and African Diasporic Studies, American Studies or a cognate degree with a focus in any of the above. Doctorate Should be completed by time of appointment.
