Tufts University School of Medicine (TUSM) has nearly 5000 total faculty members and over 1000 clinical trainees (residents and fellows) based at the Tufts-affiliated hospitals and programs. The TUSM Office of Faculty Affairs (OFA) is responsible for the appointment, reappointment, promotion, tenure, and orientation programming for medical school faculty and clinical trainees. Additionally, the OFA provides guidance and expertise on faculty related inquiries and policies.
The OFA is committed to promoting the advancement and recognition of the varied medical school faculty members across our academic partners. This includes proactive faculty development and outreach to faculty and our major academic partners related to faculty advancement and the promotion process.
What You'll Do
As a member of the TUSM Office of Faculty Affairs (OFA) team, reporting to the Director of Faculty Affairs, the Sr. Faculty Affairs Officer will be responsible for providing support and guidance to faculty members navigating the TUSM academic appointment and promotions process through a combination of outreach, synchronous and asynchronous workshops, individual consultation, and other supportive programs and resources. They will be responsible for the planning, scheduling, implementation, and evaluation of all relevant programming.
Creates and disseminates faculty advancement and faculty affairs training workshops for:
Faculty (new faculty & junior and mid-career faculty)
Department Chairs and Academic Deans
Provides guidance and training on the appointment and promotion process at TUSM for faculty and academic leadership (chairs/chiefs/academic deans). This includes:
1:1 sessions and consultations
Small group sessions
Drop ins and office hours
Participates in the review and revision of the Faculty Handbook and other faculty affairs documents
Expands faculty orientation programming and welcome events
Oversees faculty recognition events, and participates in discussions on expanding recognition opportunities
Serves as a liaison between TUSM and our academic partners, ensuring effective and timely communication of changes and updates to the appointment and promotion process
Works closely with relevant Offices, Departments and Partners to facilitate the implementation of complementary programming. These units may include, but are not limited to: Office of Faculty Development, Office of Educational Affairs, Office of Clinical Education, and our many academic partner institutions
Evaluates effectiveness of existing and new programming, and adjust programming as necessary
Provides timely feedback to the Director of Faculty Affairs to ensure continuous process improvement efforts in the OFA
What We're Looking For
Knowledge and experience typically acquired through five (5) years of related experience, education or training, OR a Bachelor’s degree in education, training and development or related field and three (3) years of related experience/training
Strong organizational and project management skills to be able to independently coordinate, organize, plan and execute workshops and training sessions
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
Proficiency in organizing and reporting data with strong attention to detail and accuracy
Strong technical skills or ability to learn new systems quickly
Knowledge of common systems and computer application programs (i.e. Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.)
Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
Master’s degree in education, training and development or related field
Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS)
Understanding of learning theories, specifically Adult Learning Theory
Experience in Change Management
Experience or understanding of PeopleSoft, Interfolio, and/or Canvas
Experience working within academic medicine and across a distributed model of academic partners
Minimum $84,400.00, Midpoint $105,550.00, Maximum $126,700.00
Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
