The University of Iowa, College of Law is seeking a Director of Operations for the Law School, this position will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of the Boyd Law Building and associated facilities. Responsibilities encompass various aspects, including but not limited to building management, IT oversight, bookstore and café coordination, parking administration, and compliance with university policies.
Key Areas of Responsibilities and Specific Job Tasks
Operational Support and Management
Facilities
Serve as building coordinator for the Law School (Boyd Law Building and other facilities associated with the College of Law), address building maintenance and building needs, which includes:
Serving as contact person for all facilities and groundskeeping issues. - Overseeing all space improvements, including remodeling, furniture needs, IT needs, etc.
Managing office assignments and the faculty office lottery system.
Coordinating and overseeing office and other space moves.
Working with Facilities Management, ITS, and other required departments on projects.
Proactively monitoring actual costs vs budgeted amounts and communicating issues with stakeholders as they arise.
Meeting regularly with members of the Collegiate Management
Team to understand space needs.
Oversee building access
Working with the Law Library on their building needs
Serve as contact point for event setup, including coordinating extra security for events as needed.
Handle Boyd Law Building Space Rental - monitor external entities who are using the space, communicate cost, verify payments received, etc
IT oversight
Act as primary liaison to IT staff; work with IT Director in assuring technology needs are met at the College, including problem solving ongoing, new, and potential issues.
Coordinate communications with central IT as needed.
Law School Bookstore
Work with bookstore employee and Registrar to anticipate the needs of faculty and Law students.
Café Oversight
Serve as point person on contract negotiations and space needs for Law School café
Parking
Serve as custodian of parking passes, including ordering, logging, accumulating info for quarterly chargeout, etc. Ensure compliance with University or other policies in areas of oversight.
Human Resources (HR)
Supervise bookstore employee.
Hire and supervise building students.
Work with IT Director in assigning duties to IT staff as needed
Strategic Planning
Build and maintain system for monitoring and prioritizing facilities' needs in alignment with mission. Regularly seek feedback, both qualitive and quantitative, to assess needs in areas of oversight. Communicate information in regular reports.
Ensure compliance with University or other policies in areas of oversight.
Forecast plans for renovations, including long term planning, cost planning, project management, etc.
Information and Communications Management
Maintain proactive communication with law school community regarding building and facilities and IT needs, and updates.
Distributes pertinent information regarding work plans to stakeholders.
Liaison to central units and others representing law school interests.

Position Qualifications
Education required:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience Required:
Minimum 5 years of experience working with facilities and building issues.
Minimum 3 years of experience in operational management experience
Experience in managing complex projects, especially related to facilities project management priorities and workflow.
Demonstrated operational and project management experience.
Demonstrated experience in budgeting planning and tracking.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills,
Excellent organizational skills, including evidence of strong prioritization skills, accuracy, and attention to detail and demonstrated ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines.
Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving and change management skills with a focus on maintaining and developing relationships and partnerships.
Ability to work with and coordinate with multiple stakeholders.
Ability to effectively interact with diverse populations.
Driver's License and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Requirements.
Desirable Qualifications:
Knowledge of University of Iowa policies, procedures, and regulations.
Certification in project management.
Working knowledge of supply and inventory management.
Supervisory experience, including hiring, onboarding, and training.
