The Alumni Association of the University of Michigan (AAUM) is seeking a Director of Alumni Career and Education as an integral part of the AAUM's strategic plan. This role would play an important part in ensuring that U-M alumni are provided opportunities to benefit from lifetime, life-wide success through alumni education and career program resources.
As the Director of Alumni Career and Education, you will be responsible for leading your team in the creation and implementation of lifelong learning and career programs for alumni that help to further the AAUM mission.

Develop and implement a comprehensive, multi-year strategic plan for providing alumni with relevant opportunities for success through education and career programming.
Create milestones and metrics for team alignment and empower your team's execution of the strategic plan goals.
Establish collaborative and productive relationships with essential faculty, staff, and alumni who have specific expertise or access to resources that will help meet alumni success needs.
Provide university-wide leadership for a broad community of individuals involved in creating and/or providing success resources to alumni, resulting in greater efficiency and effectiveness in meeting alumni needs.
Use technology and communications to ensure that alumni know about and have easy access to desired resources.
Lead the development of high quality, relevant education and career content/opportunities across the Association including programs, activities, and events.
Provide specific leadership and oversight for the development and implementation of programs and resources to meet alumni professional development needs.
Collaborate with the AAUM marketing team to develop and execute effective marketing plans that ensure alumni are aware of opportunities for success and value the roles that AAUM and U-M provide.
Represent the Alumni Career and Education programs with both internal and external partners and the alumni audience (e.g., leading webinars, institutional projects).
Oversee the alumni career and education budgets and be financially responsible (e.g., managing monthly spending, forecasting, and stewarding) for the Alumni Association's resources by aligning programs with organizational goals.
Effectively lead, manage and supervise the Alumni Career and Education team (consisting of Alumni Career and Alumni Education) by communicating expectations, setting work schedules and priorities, providing opportunities for personal and professional growth through regular performance reviews, guidance, and encouraging training while presenting new techniques, and recruiting/hiring staff as needed.
General Duties
Provide organizational leadership by demonstrating AAUM core values: All In, Serving Heart and Solution Seeker, and helping other staff members demonstrate those values.
Value and embrace different identities and diversity of thought recognizing that everyone has unique and different experiences that contribute to the best solution seeking and success for AAUM.
Work with AAUM staff members to gain a clear and consistent understanding of the details of the strategic plan and feel equal ownership of every piece of it, including pieces for which there is no direct responsibility.
Be inclusive and collaborative with every other member of the staff and every other team. Operate as a critical contributing member of the staff to complete objectives in many different areas in order to move the whole organization toward the strategic plan.
Support University Relations efforts by demonstrating AAUM value to campus units/partners (i.e., schools/colleges, campuses).
Continually build digital skill sets in order to implement into work.
Staff and participate in team meetings, Alumni Association events and staff retreats including offsite, overnight staff retreats at Camp Michigania.
Provide staff support to the Alumni Association's Board of Directors, its committees, and other volunteers as needed.
Coordinate special projects as assigned or required.
Participate in Alumni Association and other University committees as required.
Share knowledge through internal communication.
Support the Alumni Association's vision of creating a place of belonging for all alumni.
Remain current with respect to technology and the University's educational resources.
A bachelor's degree and at least eight years of professional experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience developing, implementing, and/or working with learning models of various delivery methods including in-person and digital.
Experience creating and executing a budget including budget reconciliation.
Experience creating strategies, analyzing data, extracting trends, and applying findings to improve products.
Team player and an attitude for collaboration.
Understanding of and the ability to navigate complex organizational systems.
Excellent written and verbal communication including dynamic public speaking skills.
Work effectively with leaders and colleagues in a multicultural and diverse environment.
Understand career development and have a commitment to lifelong learning and pedagogy.
Physical Requirements
AAUM welcomes applications from people of all abilities. This particular position requires the occasional moving of 10 lbs or less.
Work Location
The AAUM is currently working in a hybrid or remote work setting based on job duties. This position requires a hybrid schedule with opportunities for remote and in person work.
Work Schedule
This position may require some evening and weekend work.

Direct supervision is received from the VP, Alumni Engagement.

Supervision exercised over the Associate Director of Alumni Career and the Associate Director of Alumni Education.
