The Associate Director for MBA Career & Leadership, provides career-related support to the UNC Kenan-Flagler MBA student & alumni populations and operational support to the MBA Career & Leadership (C&L) department. This position provides quality customer service to stakeholders, takes initiative to enhance department processes and operations, and deploys innovate solutions when opportunities or challenges arise.
The Associate Director, Career & Leadership is a key senior position that directly impacts the educational experience of enrolled MBA students across the four delivery formats – Full-time; Evening: Weekend, and Online (MBA@UNC), along with Alumni Programs. The position has extensive contact with students in our programs. The Associate Director partners with Directors and Sr. Associate Directors for C&L and with each cross-functional area of the MBA Program, (Admissions and Student Recruitment, Student Engagement, and Academics and Operations) to independently review, develop and implement academic and operational standards and deliver services to students that directly and positively impact the student experience in our MBA programs, and to ensure that students receive a similar high quality educational experience across all degree channels.
The Associate Director will have a varied operational responsibilities related to the successful delivery and maintenance of the MBA program, as well as projects at the direction of the (2) Directors and senior leadership teams of the program. The Associate Director develops strategies to streamline and improve department (and Program wide) operational processes and standardize academic processes. This position serves as the liaison between the C&L department and Kenan-Flagler's IT Department as well as other academic programs within the business school.
The Associate Director identifies industry and competitor trends and best practices, assesses feasibility, and makes recommendations and presentations to senior program leadership, providing strategic input on topics such as admissions & student recruitment, academics & operations, career & leadership, and student engagement. The position also works closely with senior management to ensure academic and operational consistency across all formats of the MBA program and plays a role in the strategic decisions of the department and the implementation of any academic and operational modifications. The Associate Director develops strategies to streamline and improve C&L department operational processes and standardize academic processes. The Associate Director serves as one of staff leads for quarterly MBA immersions courses (domestic and international), and participates in student events, such as new student orientations and graduation ceremonies.
The Associate Director supervises a full-time EHRA employee. The position is responsible for assisting the senior leadership with hiring & onboarding employees (i.e. maintenance of job descriptions, coordination of recruitments from job posting to candidate selection, and new employee orientation), ensuring proper training, providing timely feedback regarding work workflows and performance, encouraging professional development and employee engagement, and being available to resolve complex issues and concerns as they arise.
The Associate Director will report to the Director of Employer Relations & Operations (previously Employer Engagement & Recruiting-EE&R) for MBA Career & Leadership and work collaboratively with staff within Career Coaching, Employer Relations & Operations teams, as well as several key departments across the School, such as UBP Career Management, MAC Career Management, MBA Student Engagement, MBA Admissions, Centers of Excellence and faculty, business partnerships, students and alumni, among others.
Education and Experience:
Preferred: * 2-4 years of previous work experience in operations, finance, or related area * Excellent project management, leadership, finance, and analytical skills * Ability to work independently and collaboratively; prioritize in a fast-paced environment * Willingness to assume new tasks and special projects * Superior oral and written communication skills, and attention to detail * Strong capabilities with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook) * Experience with software, databases, and technologies; 12Twenty experience preferred
