Job Description:
Summary The Senior Vice President (SVP) for Operations and Finance at Iowa State University seeks an innovative, creative, and collaborative leader for its Associate Vice President (AVP) Facilities Planning and Management position. The AVP is a senior leadership position that serves as a key advisor and strategic partner to the SVP for facilities management for Iowa State University. This role involves leading a team of facilities professionals and working collaboratively with other departments to ensure that the ISU's physical infrastructure supports its operational and strategic goals. Here is a summary of the key responsibilities and qualifications typically associated with the role of an AVP:
Responsibilities:
Facilities Maintenance and Operations: Oversee the day-to-day maintenance and operations of all facilities, ensuring they are well-maintained, safe, and compliant with regulations. Coordinate maintenance activities and repairs to minimize downtime.
Plant Operations Management: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the utilities plant to ensure reliable and efficient production and distribution of utilities.
Logistics Operations Management: Oversee daily logistics and supply chain operations, including warehousing, inventory management, and order fulfillment. Ensure that products and materials are moved efficiently through the supply chain.
Capital Projects Management: Lead and manage capital improvement projects, including construction, renovations, and infrastructure upgrades. Develop project budgets, timelines, and scope of work, and coordinate with contractors and architects.
Team Leadership and Development: Build and lead a high-performing facilities management team, including hiring, training, and performance management. Foster a collaborative and efficient work environment.
Continuous Improvement: Continuously evaluate and improve facilities management processes and practices to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and cost savings.
Budget Management: Prepare, manage, and oversee the department's budget, ensuring efficient resource allocation, cost control, and financial accountability. Monitor expenses and identify opportunities for cost savings.
Strategic Facilities Planning: Collaborate with senior leadership to align long-term strategic plans for the organization's facilities to support its mission, growth, and operational needs.
Compliance and Regulatory Affairs: Stay informed about relevant laws, codes, and regulations related to facilities management. Ensure facilities are compliant with all applicable standards.
Community and Stakeholder Relations: Establish and maintain positive relationships with local authorities, neighbors, and other stakeholders, especially if the organization's facilities impact the surrounding community.
Environmental Stewardship: Promote and implement environmental sustainability practices, such as energy efficiency, waste reduction, and emissions control, in line with regulatory requirements and best practices.
Emergency Response: Develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures for various scenarios, such as equipment failures, natural disasters, or other emergencies.
