The Intake, Training and Prevention Coordinator (“the Coordinator”) plays an essential role in the campus community combining case management with training, prevention, and community outreach regarding issues of sexual and gender-based misconduct, identity bias, interpersonal violence, consent, healthy relationships and bystander intervention. In this function, the Coordinator will play an important role in the support of those impacted by alleged misconduct and serve as liaison with internal and external agencies and departments to coordinate community partnerships, implement ongoing community prevention education as well as track and implement required community training.
Responsibilities of the Coordinator include, but are not limited to, the following:
Training, Education and Compliance
Support community training around Wheaton’s policies and procedures related to sexual and gender-based misconduct (Title IX), bias incident response, bystander intervention, reporting options and support resources.
Work in collaboration with Title IX Coordinator and Bias Incident Response Officer to meet the requirements for community education including training, prevention programs and educational materials.
Track all training and education in the subject area, including maintaining records of required training programs to ensure institutional compliance with state and federal laws in collaboration with and in support of the Title IX Coordinator and Bias Incident Response Officer.
Research emerging best practices and coordinate efforts to maintain a sustainable and comprehensive training and prevention program.
Maintain a general record of office activities, recommend changes, and maintain communication to appropriate administrators.
Ensure that information on reporting options and the College response are effectively and accurately communicated to the Wheaton community via print and digital media.
Student Disclosures and Response
Conduct intake meetings for reports of alleged sexual and gender-based misconduct and bias incidents from community members, ensuring an appropriate and compliant response to disclosures that is in line with College policies and procedures.
Serve as a resource on campus for community members to access support regarding sexual and gender-based, interpersonal and bias-motivated misconduct.
Help connect students to on and off-campus resources based on their needs.
Provide supportive measures as well as prevention-focused interventions in response to alleged misconduct, when appropriate and with support from the Title IX Coordinator and Bias Incident Response Officer.
Support an office environment that is widely perceived by the community as being a trauma-informed, welcoming space to access support and resources.
Report relevant information to the Title IX Coordinator and Bias Incident Response Officer to ensure appropriate incident tracking in accordance with the Clery Act and Title IX.
Community Engagement and Leadership
Coordinate regular community outreach for students, staff, and faculty, specifically around topics including sexual and gender-based misconduct, identity bias, interpersonal violence, consent, healthy relationships and bystander intervention.
Participate in meetings with Campus Safety, Dean of Students, Residential Life, and the Title IX Coordinator to discuss campus climate and best approaches to addressing trends in incident response.
Provide leadership for the interdepartmental Sexual Misconduct and Assault Resource Team (SMART), including recruitment and management to maintain a diverse, engaged and informed working group for the purpose of planning education strategies, gaining campus buy-in and engaging in dialogue around sexual and gender-based misconduct prevention.
Coordinate events that support the care and healing of those impacted by sexual and interpersonal violence and other forms of interpersonal harm.
Hire and supervise student employees to support programmatic initiatives.
Serve as liaison to external prevention and education partners, most specifically New Hope. Inc. and the Norton Police Department, as point person for the College’s documented educational partnerships with those organizations.
Provide support and supervision for student-led programs, including advising student groups with corresponding educational missions.
Gather and develop data collection for community engagement activities, including training and programmatic outcome and attendance data, expense reporting data, and assessment data.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required with a minimum of three years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Previous experience in training, outreach and prevention education is necessary.
Demonstrated knowledge in topics of sexual misconduct and gender-based violence with traditionally-aged college students on a small residential campus.
Ability to work well with a diverse range of constituents (staff, faculty, parents, off-campus providers, etc.).
Understanding of student development theory and current best practices in outreach and prevention education.
Ability to work well with college students and be perceived as trustworthy, empathic, and clear in setting/communicating expectations in accordance with policies/procedures.
Ability to conduct educational programs and training workshops.
Knowledge of laws, regulations, and guidance including Title IX, VAWA/Campus SAVE, and Clery.
Strong organizational skills and evidence of an ability to lead and coordinate in a group setting.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Excellent skills in collaboration and interpersonal relationship development.
Excellent administrative skills and project management efficiency.
Willingness to learn.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in education, social work, gender studies, or other field is preferred.
