The Director of Academic Facilities and Operations provides strategic leadership, coordination, management, and oversight of the facilities and operations of Physical Science Departments within the Dean of the Faculty (DoF), supporting a complex research enterprise spread through 13 buildings with ~300,000 assignable square feet. The position works closely with senior leadership to analyze, plan, and coordinate facilities use and design to support research and scholarly activities within the Physical Sciences and develops strategic direction for long-term, large-scale facilities projects and planning. The position is integral in advising and interfacing with constituent departments, the DoF, the Provostâ™s Office, and the Universityâ™s Facilities Management Department (FM) in developing, planning, designing, and executing facilities projects.
The Director oversees and supports Physical Science Departments in day-to-day operations related to construction and engineering to ensure reliable facility operations. The Director represents the DoF and the Physical Sciences faculty by developing a strong, mutually beneficial partnership with the Universityâ™s FM, Public Safety, and Environmental Health and Safety to troubleshoot and problem-solve issues within the various facilities in a timely manner.
Education and Experience:
Bachelorâ™s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a closely related field with 8 or more years of related experience with significant experience at the managerial level or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Broad knowledge of research and teaching space facility and utilization requirements.Â
Experience in laboratory planning, design, and construction; a sound working knowledge of laboratory safety and security issues (including HVAC and MEP systems), building codes, construction methods, and scientific research operations.
Working knowledge/ability of AutoCAD, Microsoft Office products, and various database applications. Project management software proficiency is preferred.
Strong leadership and managerial skills, outstanding interpersonal skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, discipline, and diplomacy.
Possesses a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive campus community
Strong planning, management, and organizational skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
