Overview
The University Center for Human Values (UCHV) fosters ongoing inquiry into important ethical issues in private and public life and supports teaching, research, and discussion of ethics and human values throughout the curriculum and across the disciplines at Princeton University. UCHV seeks a dynamic, versatile, and experienced communications professional to serve as the Center's Senior Communications Strategist. Reporting to the Director and Assistant Director of UCHV, the Senior Communications Strategist will be responsible for the creation, implementation, and oversight of the UCHV's first strategic plan for communications, with the goal of elevating the Center's visibility and broad impact.
In addition, the Senior Communications Strategist will write and publicize stories, interviews, and event recaps for a wide audience. Specific projects will include producing the UCHVâ™s Annual Report, creating brochures, managing content for social media outlets, and writing and posting faculty news items. The Senior Communications Strategist will work collaboratively with UCHV's faculty, postdocs, graduate students, and staff to provide support ranging from publicity, writing, and copy editing.
This is 36-month term position.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan for UCHV's communications. Work with UCHV's faculty and Executive Committee to elevate the Center's public profile and engagement on important matters in ethics. Specific elements may include:
A website redesign.
Creation of recruitment materials for UCHV's postdoc program, Graduate Prize Fellowship program, and faculty fellowships.
A re-imagined social media presence and campaign.
Pitch research and/or subject expertise from UCHV faculty to media outlets.
Act as a liaison to Media Relations and the Office of Communications more generally.
Coordinate Op-Ed workshops for faculty.
Produce written content for both internal and external audiences:
Promote events and initiatives, execute successful e-mail marketing efforts, and apply basic design principles within commonly used web publishing environments.
Design, edit, and produce print publications, including the Centerâ™s Annual Report.
Design and send digital event announcements in Mailchimp.
Write faculty news items and post to UCHV's website.
Write and publicize stories, interviews, and event recaps for a wide audience.
Work collaboratively with UCHV's faculty, postdocs, graduate students, and staff to provide support ranging from publicity, writing, and copy editing.
Supervise the creation of UCHVâ™s weekly newsletter.
Supervision:
Supervise UCHV's Event and Communications Strategist on their communications work streams. ⢠Oversee written material produced by all UCHV staff.
Qualifications
Essential:
Bachelorâ™s degree and 5+ years of experience in communications or related field. Experience in developing and implementing communications strategies effectively. Excellent oral and written communications skills. Strong ability to prioritize responsibilities, multi-task, as well as meet tight deadlines. Ability to work independently and also as part of a team. Ability to constructively edit othersâ™ work. Proven track record of project management experience Proficiency in Microsoft desktop applications (PowerPoint, Word, Excel), web publishing (Drupal), Google Docs, and social media platforms.
Preferred:
Familiarity/comfort with MailChimp or similar email marketing platforms.
Experience in a university setting.
