Northeastern University's Ethics Institute is home to a diverse array of research, curricular, co-curricular, and outreach programs. The Institute collaborates widely across the University, including with philosophy, religious studies, law, computer science, engineering, network science, biology, journalism, business, design, and political science. The Institute also supports ethics-oriented programming, education, and research throughout Northeastern University's global campus network. The Associate Director for Program Development and Coordination will be a key contributor to cross-university efforts and, along with the Institute Director and other Associate Directors, will be responsible for representing the Ethics Institute in collaborative initiatives.
Job Summary
The Northeastern University Ethics Institute seeks to hire an Associate Director for Program Development and Coordination. The Associate Director will work closely with and report directly to the Institute Director. They will help to develop, coordinate, and manage Ethics Institute programs and initiatives, collaborate on funded projects, and contribute to Institute planning, grant/proposal writing, and outreach.
This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, administrative position.

Primary responsibilities include:
Coordination of Ethics Institute Programs
The Associate Director for Program Development and Coordination will help to coordinate research and education programs and initiatives in collaboration with the Institute Director and project PIs. The Associate Director of Programs and Development will also collaborate closely with the Ethics Institute's Operations Manager in areas such as website/communications, record-keeping/reporting, budget/finance management, planning, events, and assessment. They will manage the Ethics Institute coop program, including hiring, supervising and mentoring coop students.
Outreach within and beyond the University
The Associate Director for Program Development and Coordination will work with the Institute Director and Institute Faculty to build collaborations within and beyond the university. They will manage the development and delivery of ethics modules, and deliver presentations and trainings for programs throughout Northeastern University. This includes Northeastern's global campus network. They will also represent the Ethics Institute at public-facing events and help to raise awareness of the Ethics Institute's work through professional organizations, conferences, the media, and online.
Research and curriculum development on Ethics Institute projects
The Associate Director for Program Development and Coordination will contribute to Ethics Institute research and education innovation projects.
Project Development
The Associate Director for Program Development and Coordination, in collaboration with the Institute Director and Institute faculty, will be responsible for identifying appropriate funded research opportunities and developing proposals for those opportunities. They will help to develop project teams and will play a primary role in managing and facilitating the proposal preparation process, as well as in coordinating internal proposal submission and approval processes. They will substantially contribute to and support Ethics Institute fundraising efforts, including with developing relationships with industry partners, foundations, and other charitable organizations and potential donors. They will work closely with representatives from the university's Development Office and Corporate and Foundation Relations staff, the Provost's Research Development Office, and the college's Development\Business Development staff.
Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in Philosophy, STS, Political Theory or a related field in addition to professional experience in research, university/education, project management, and academic administration, or some combination of the four.
Demonstrated commitment to fostering inclusive, collaborative, and collegial environments, as well as to collaborating productively with diverse groups and interdisciplinary teams.
Experience with project management, including such things as team-building, personnel supervision, budgeting, record-keeping, impact assessment, and reporting.
Excellent skills in professional writing and oral communication, with a preference for candidates with a demonstrated ability to translate research for non-academic audiences.
Excellent research skills in philosophical and/or empirical approaches to ethics, with a preference for candidates that have a strong track record of publication.
Ability to develop and write successful funding proposals, with a preference for candidates that have a history of attracting funding from external sources.
Ability to build and maintain strategic partnerships with other academic units, industry, and charitable organizations.
The organizational and strategic skills to develop and sustain multiple complex projects simultaneously.
Experience working with undergraduate students and a commitment to experiential learning.
