Michigan Medicine Laboratories (MLabs) Business Systems Analyst and Connectivity Team Lead oversees and manages the information technology needs of MLabs reference laboratory and outreach division. This individual is responsible for leading client EMR connectivity solutions that supports seamless integration with MLabs Laboratory Information System (LIS) and patient registration systems, including integration with physician office EMRs, hospital laboratory EMRs and LISs, and other external order sources to strengthen client relationships and test order integrity, to increase laboratory productivity and profitability, and to enhance patient care. This individual works in concert with the Pathology Informatics team and Health Information Technology & Services (HITS) to facilitate process improvements and to ensure that information technology functionality related to MLabs reference laboratory and outreach services works as expected and meets the needs of MLabs clients and staff. In collaboration with Pathology Informatics, effort is expended troubleshooting existing electronic order and result reporting and other IT applications for root cause analysis, problem resolution and service recovery.
• Supervise direct reports as assigned. Promote employee job satisfaction and professional growth. Build team engagement with focus on trust and cooperation. Responsible (directly or indirectly) for all subordinate staff activities related to human resource management (recruitment, hiring, on-boarding, promotion, salary changes, performance coaching, disciplinary actions, mandatory competencies, and annual evaluations). • Oversee projects and daily operations managed or co-managed by the Pathology Informatics division. Lead, facilitate, coordinate, schedule, and drive IT projects and tasks to completion. Support the successful delivery of projects and tasks through effective facilitation, coordination, data analysis, tracking and reporting. Share lessons learned and best practices across teams and divisions, build relationships with stakeholders, and promote good practices. • Provide overall project leadership and manage the operation of existing MLabs client interfaces, development of new interfaces, and enhancements to existing interfaces. Client interfaces include direct Laboratory Information System (LIS) to LIS interfaces, LIS to Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems, and LIS to EMR interfaces through intermediate middleware systems. o Extend configurable workflows and rules management capabilities to physician customers, nursing homes, patient service centers, reference labs and others, including those using electronic medical records (EMRs) and third-party middleware solutions. o Collaborate with MLabs Business Development team to participate in information gathering for client interface requirements. Educate and directly interact with clients and client’s vendor to design and oversee interface implementation project plans and to help them understand the benefits and limitations of their specific EMR or LIS interface during implementation. o Perform and facilitate testing and support to ensure hospital and physician client interfaces conform to the client’s HL7 standards. o Responsible for multiple implementations or conversion projects and for providing project status updates. o Provide communications such as go-live notices, support documentation, and operational checklists to our internal organization relative to any new or change to existing client interface. o Implementation of communication scripts and protocols to include VPN and frame and web services. o Provide post-implementation support. o Troubleshoot existing electronic order and result reporting applications for root cause analysis, problem resolution, and service recovery. Escalate implementation and support issues to the appropriate individuals or groups for resolution. o Lead implementation of enhanced services including but not limited to instrument-ready barcode label printing at point of service and integrated dashboards for monitoring and tracking of system issues. • Monitor and maintain equipment and IT configuration inventories, technical and procedure documentation for MLabs IT operations and support roles. Collect and ensure digital storage of MLabs and Client documents. Maintain paper/electronic documentation required by Department of Pathology and Michigan Medicine accrediting agencies as related to primary responsibilities.

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, laboratory science or equivalent combination of education and experience. • A minimum of 8 years of relevant professional experience. • Demonstrated commitment to Service Excellence.
• Experience leading, motivating, and managing various project and program team sizes, including internal and external resources, while holding team accountable for performance • Solid understanding of computer workstations and printers, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephone systems, Local Area Networking (LAN), Wide Area Networking (WAN), and Internet network architectures, telephony integration and fax servers. • Previous experience with Clinisys (Atlas) middleware application, Salesforce, SCC Soft Laboratory Information System (LIS), • Clinical laboratory workflow experience • Experience in supporting large clinical laboratory information systems • Experience with hospital LIS systems (MediTech, Cerner, Epic) • Familiarity with Structured Query Language and report writing skills • Experience supporting interfaces at a healthcare facility is highly desirable with an understanding of HL7 messaging protocol • Project management experience
