Working as part of Baker Library Special Collections and Archives (BLSCA), the Accessioning Archivist is a member of the BLSCA processing team. The Accessioning Archivist will be responsible for accessioning all incoming Baker Library Special Collections and Archives collection materials including Harvard Business School records and faculty papers, corporate records, and manuscript materials, ensuring that newly accessioned material, both paper and digital, is available for research within a reasonable timeframe. The Accessioning Archivist will also be responsible for creating initial collection-level description for all holdings, ensuring responsible administrative and physical control and basic intellectual access for all material at time of accession, and providing the infrastructure upon which any future archival work will be built. This position liaises regularly with collection managers, and under the guidance of the Manager, Archival Processing, contributes to the department's policies, procedures, and workflows. Reports to the Manager, Archival Processing.

Position Description
Accession both physical and digital collection materials. This includes basic stabilization, creating inventories based on accessioning level, arrangement and description, and creating and updating accession metadata in archival and cataloging systems.
In consultation with collection managers, conduct accessioning as processing to reduce backlog and time it takes to make more materials available for research.
Create resource records in ArchivesSpace in accordance with current Baker Library Special Collection and Archives standards.
Collaborate with the Digital Archivist in capturing born-digital content on storage media.
In consultation with the Manager, Archival Processing, participate in the ongoing development of the department's accessioning procedures.
Gather statistics relevant to accessioning for tracking progress and establishing processing priorities.
Assist with the documentation of record destructions.
Where appropriate, facilitate the packing and secure transportation for incoming collection material.
This role is responsible for other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
M.S. (Master of Science) in library and information science, equivalent degree or two years work experience with archival theory and practice.
Minimum 2 years' experience accessioning and/or processing archival materials in a variety of formats, including experience with current national standards for archival arrangement and description.
Additional Qualifications and Skills
Demonstrated ability to create archival description using and applying DACS and other library and archival descriptive and content standards.
Familiarity using archival and cataloging content management systems to create discovery tools such as finding aids and catalog records.
Experience working both collaboratively and independently with varied groups.
Comfort with voicing opinions/perspectives in a professional manner.
Experience working with confidential materials and exercising discretion.
Familiarity with accessioning born digital materials and digital preservation concepts.
Demonstrated experience with basic preservation and conservation standards for archival collections.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift 40 pounds at a time; ability to remain stationary for extended periods; push, pull, and bend, as necessary.
Additional Information
This position is approved for a 3-year term (with possibility of renewal/extension) which begins on the person's first day of employment.
This role requires that you are onsite at our Boston, MA based campus as the role is not eligible for remote and/or hybrid work.

Salary range: $70k - $80k, commensurate with relevant experience.
