Position Description
The College for Creative Studies (CCS) invites diverse applications for a full-time one-year faculty position with expertise in a range Printmaking media. This position reports to the Chair of the Art Practice Department within the Undergraduate Studies Division and is responsible for leading and developing curriculum in the Printmaking area.
Rank and compensation are commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Position Accountabilities and Essential Functions
Teach three classes per semester during the academic year and mentor undergraduate students with a focus in Art Practice.
Oversee and maintain the Printmaking area classrooms and equipment.
Manage the inventory and purchase of materials and supplies
Work closely with work-study students to maintain studio shops and classrooms, work with adjunct faculty in the Printmaking area to coordinate Printmaking curriculum, pedagogies and approaches.
Continued professional activity and growth, as well as service within the department, college, and professional community are also required.
Qualifications and Experience
Candidates must have an MFA in Printmaking with minimum of two years teaching in higher education.
Qualified to teach a range of Printmaking processes including lithography, relief, and intaglio. Screen-printing, letterpress and book arts are also highly desirable skills. The preferred candidate will have a firm grounding in the history and traditions of Printmaking along with contemporary and experimental practices that include both analogue and digital processes.
Demonstrated active professional practice and proficiency in a range of Printmaking processes.
Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds who are dedicated to a range of art and design disciplines.
Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary art, theory and practice.
Demonstrates a dedication to and understanding of DEI as the basis of pedagogy, mentoring, collegiality and community.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: This job operates in a professional office and college campus environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to maintain a stationary position, use a computer and the respective studio equipment in the Printmaking areas. Since this position includes overseeing the Print areas facilities, the employee will be required to move boxes, materials and other supplies necessary to maintain the shops. Activity will include climbing on a ladder, light handywork such a hammering, and activities involved in clean-up and organization of Print area studios. The ability to move around within the classroom studios and between buildings on campus, attend off-site meetings and events, and travel between Ford Campus site to Taubman Center site are required. CCS will make reasonable accommodations that will allow individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
