As Lead Architect/Engineer for Design for the EIC Infrastructure Division, the selected candidate will support the EIC Infrastructure Division Director in managing engineering and design activities for the EIC's civil site, buildings, and mechanical and electrical utility systems. In this role, you would also create a safe environment for the new accelerator systems being installed for EIC and promote an inclusive work environment that ensures diversity of thought, background, and perspective. Major responsibilities include performing design reviews and analysis, site, and space planning, coordinating the engineering and design process, coordinating and managing A/E services design contracts, and managing architectural and engineering design support during construction. At the direction of the Division Director, may lead elements of the following areas: the EIC Infrastructure Team, the Architect/Engineer Design Team, and any Engineering and Construction Services Support from BNL support organizations. Reports to the EIC Infrastructure Division Director.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure that BNL's Integrated Safety Management approach is designed into the infrastructure scope of work from design through execution.
Perform drawing and design review with a focus on the integration of all facilities, structures, and systems as well as architectural/structural details. This responsibility includes the ability to perform calculation checks and reviews of submittals.
Develop and present materials on EIC Infrastructure progress to internal and external stakeholders at project reviews and other meetings as may be required.
Manage and coordinate RFI's and responses between the project A/E and Infrastructure Design Teams. Work to meet milestones within an aggressive design development schedule.
Oversee configuration management and change control within the Infrastructure Division
Perform Design and Construction specification review and submittal review and approvals within area of responsibility.
Evaluate design maturity of A/E design submittals.
Act as point of contact and system expert within the Infrastructure Division for Building Information Modeling (BIM) systems.
Perform construction oversight to verify that work meets specifications.
Take action to review emergent change order requests.
Support requirements management and identify and manage interfaces with existing systems and accelerator systems.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Requires a bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering or related discipline
At least 7 years' related experience in architectural or facilities design, engineering, and construction and proficiency in project management principles, including managing of cost and schedule with software tools such as Primavera or MS Project.
Experience and working knowledge in contract management involving Architect/Engineering firm and construction contracts on large construction projects
Expertise in building codes and standards, for example IBC as promulgated by NYS
Knowledge of industrial and construction safety standards such as OSHA and NFPA
Ability to perform progress payment request evaluation, monitoring, and processing
Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, or other design and reviewing tools, estimating methods, and familiarity with drawing and specification package preparation
Excellent collaboration, communication and presentation skills. Proficiency in MSOffice and PowerPoint
Knowledge of design configuration management for application within EIC system
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Candidate should also possess working knowledge in implementing project management practices required by DOE Order 413.3 Program and Project Management for Acquisition of Capital Assets, to include project planning, budgeting, scheduling, cost estimating, risk management, and performance management
Experience with Earned Value Management Systems in a project and/or construction environment
Professional certification or licensing (e.g. RA, PE, PMP)
Environmental, Health & Safety Requirements
Position requires the ability to work outdoors in a construction environment including:
Walking through an in-progress jobsite in all weather conditions
Wearing appropriate PPE for a construction site
Climbing ladders
Maintaining continuous vigilance when working around machinery and heavy equipment
Candidate will be required to obtain and maintain radiological training for working in and around posted radiation areas in accordance with ALARA principles
Other Information:
Must have valid driver's license; candidate will be expected to drive laboratory vehicle to/from and safely on construction work site.
Ability to travel.
Selected candidate will be placed at the appropriate level based on the depth and breadth of relevant engineering knowledge, skills, and experience.
