The Office of Diversity and Inclusion at Johns Hopkins University is excited to accept applications for the role of Director of Strategic Communications and Branding. Reporting directly to the Vice Provost for Diversity and Inclusion/Chief Diversity Officer (VPDI/CDO), the Director of Strategic Communications will work closely with the VPDI and their team to develop and execute the communications strategy for the Office of Diversity and Inclusion.
The successful candidate will have the ability to operate on both strategic and tactical levels to promote the work of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion; communicate DEI efforts to JHU affiliates and the local community; and identify opportunities for ODI to engage through traditional and social media avenues. This successful candidate will be encouraged and supported to directly and intentionally collaborate with University Communications to ensure consistent and effective internal and external communication efforts. This position requires strong and demonstrated written and conversational communications skills and the ability to influence outcomes. The incumbent will be highly effective at building credibility and relationships at all levels of the institution, externally with the Baltimore community, and with peers across Higher Education. And, the successful candidate will serve as the visionary leader for how to best communicate the successes of the office through storytelling. Share your perspective on the role of communications as it relates to keeping internal and external communities informed of various diversity, equity, inclusion initiatives. Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Develop an overarching strategy for and development of clear and effective content for JHU affiliates and the local community.
Work alongside university communications to support diversity, equity, and inclusion related communication decision making and implementation.
Develop and maintain an internal communications calendar, ensuring that communications activities are coordinated across DEI offices throughout the institution Promote the visibility of ODI success stories, events, programs, products, staff, and students through a variety of approaches (both web and print) for both internal and external audiences.
Develop and coordinate the installment of regularly scheduled communications to the JHU community on behalf of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion including the development of newsletters, monthly/quarterly/annual progress reports, and other editorial materials as needed.
Leads the development and execution of internal and external communication strategies for the diversity, equity, and inclusion related topics, institution-wide, ensuring clear messaging.
Advise the Vice Provost for Diversity and Inclusion in their efforts to foster positive interactions with the community.
May be asked to drafts speeches, talking points, messages, and other communications materials for the VPDI.
Guides and supports the VPDI with internal and external communications and media strategy.
Advertise ODI events (e.g., training, programming, hiring, conferences) through internal and external communication channels.
Edit, proofread, and produce content for publication on the university's news website.
Work directly with JHMI diversity offices to coordinate messages.
Oversee administration, maintenance, and content management of the ODI website, including assurance that content is up-to-date and accurate and that all links work.
Oversee the future design and development of internal websites to help support diversity, equity, and inclusion across the institution.
Develop and assist with presentations related to campus diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.
Stay current on emerging issues and trends in DEI work.
Serve as an engaging team member by regularly contributing ideas to content planning and brainstorming discussions.
May be asked to work with University Communications to develop an external media strategy that showcases the work of faculty, students, and the University to a national and global audience.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in related field
Five years related experience
Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula

Master's Degree in relevant discipline
Experience in communications, marketing, or a related field
Writing experience for variety of platforms
Experience working in a decentralized environment
Project management experience preferred, but not required
