Position Summary
The director will serve as the digital business lead for the Digital Intelligence and Innovation Accelerator (DI2) (formerly Digital Transformation) implementation as part of the University strategic plan, Here and Next. DI2 will serve as an interdisciplinary academic and scholarly hub for computation and data science-focused research and innovation, education, and workforce development, and strategic partnering.
The director will lead the cloud computing and technical partnerships planning efforts, including staffing, operating, and contract expenses associated with the establishment of one or more strategic partnerships with cloud computing providers in support of technology infrastructure plans. DI2 will create a virtuous lifecycle for digital-first innovation and practice that engages the full campus community and can adapt to dynamic internal and external drivers.
The impact of this work is aimed to:
⢠Amplify and accelerate the activities of researchers and innovators working in prioritized digital domains. ⢠Embed digital competencies into teaching and learning at all levels. ⢠Inform the architecture and operations of data and computing infrastructure needed to position the university as a âliving laboratoryâ for digital transformation. ⢠Create, apply, understand, and share digital technologies and methods that address current and emergent societal and economic problems while preparing a workforce that can extend these efforts beyond academic norms.
The ideal candidate is forward-thinking, able to support senior leaders through thoughtful anticipation of potential difficulties, and give timely and appropriate responses, as needed. In addition, the director will be able to oversee portfolios using Agile methodology.
This director will report directly to the Chief Research Information Officer, Dr. Albert Lai.
This candidate will work in close partnership with senior portfolio managers as well as with initiative area leads in the Office of the Provost.

Job Description
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Complete an internal environmental scan and external market analysis of current cloud computing and identify new and relevant technical partnerships within established time frames.
Lead the expansion and operation of critical technology, including an assessment that should include an evaluation of patentability and commercial opportunity.
Work in close collaboration with WUIT to address concomitant and enabling capabilities, including technology deployment and support, cybersecurity, enterprise-grade productivity and communications solution.
Work with legal counsel to ensure adherence to university policy and guidelines and other proper tactics for assigned portfolios.Â
Work with marketing and communications director and subject matter experts to develop relevant collateral and website information for new technologies and partnerships.
Maintain and build relationships with industry contacts and potential vendors.
Negotiate key terms and execute complex contracts with established companies and start-ups.
Manage a dynamic portfolio of cloud computing and new technical projects and partnerships.
Direct high-profile initiatives as identified by department.Â
Communicate with and educate investigators, researchers and students, along with departments and schools in order to better understand the potential new technologies and institutional impact.Â
May train, mentor, and evaluate staff or trainees.Â
Some conference and industry partnership related travel.      Â

Preferred Qualifications
Masterâ™s degree in business administration, information technology or related discipline.
Experience in business cloud computing and technical partnerships with large established companies, academia, and start-ups.
Business experience in private industry.
Demonstrated people-management skills.
Ability to oversee portfolios using Agile methodology.
Ability to provide superior customer service to internal and external clients.
Excellent leadership and communication skills and be able to represent DI2 inside and outside WU.
Demonstrated ability to make appropriate decisions as it relates to cloud computing and technical partnerships.
Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Demonstrated Microsoft Office Suite abilities.
Required Qualifications
Bachelorâ™s degree and five years of related experience; a combination of college education and/or relevant experience equaling eight years may substitute for this requirement.

Salary Range
$89,300.00 - $157,200.00 / AnnuallyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
