The Department of Theatre and Dance at the State University of New York, Fredonia invites applications for a full-time, ten month appointment for a Lighting and Sound Supervisor (Instructional Support Associate, SL2). The duties of this position include: maintenance of theatrical lighting systems for a 369-seat proscenium stage, a black box theatre, a 1200-seat concert hall, and 100-seat dance studio/performance space; supervision of students enrolled in Theatre and Dance Productions courses; mix live sound for all public performances of Department musicals and; coordinating with other shop supervisors to place students enrolled in Production courses in appropriate practicums. Additionally, the candidate will work with Department faculty to supervise the installation and maintenance of lighting and sound systems for all Departmental productions, and will assist with the technical needs for Rockefeller Arts Center events.
The successful candidate will have lighting experience with ETC consoles, moving lights, LED fixtures, and lighting networks. The candidate will also have experience mixing 10-30 microphones, working with Yamaha sound consoles, and modern technical theatre software such as QLab, Lightwright and Vectorworks. Candidate must be able to lift 50 lbs, and be available for night and weekend calls as needed.

KEY RESPONSBILITIES
Reporting to the Chair, the successful candidate will:
With Faculty Lighting Designer, supervise student crews on the install and maintenance of theatrical lighting and sound systems for the department's Mainstage Productions;
Build inventories and maintain lighting and sound equipment;
Serve as the technical supervisor for Dance Performances/Recitals in the Merrins Dance Theatre;
Set up lighting and sound systems for theatre recitals and one acts;
Mix live sound for all public performances of Department musicals;
Coordinate Theatre and Dance Productions assignments with other shop supervisors;
Supervise technical needs for Rockefeller Arts Center events when not engaged on a Department production;
Create and maintain a safe working environment;
Participate in committees and provide service to the department, college, university, and profession;
Be aware of, understand, and follow all university policies.
SKILLS NEEDED
Ability to "troubleshoot" lighting and sound systems;
Expertise in theatrical electrics;
Expertise in theatrical audio engineering equipment;
Experience programming and operating digital sound consoles (Yamaha preferred);
Experience mixing live orchestra and 10 to 30 wireless microphones in a theatrical setting;
Expertise leading lighting load-ins;
Familiarity with computer network infrastructure as it relates to lighting consoles and equipment;
Familiarity with theatrical rigging;
Comfort with working on genie lifts, ladders and catwalks;
Ability to work independently;
Ability to supervise students using electrics and shop facilities:
Strong interest in working closely with undergraduate students as a supervisor and mentor;
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
Ability to lift 50 lbs;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
BA or BFA in Theatre or equivalent professional experience;
Professional experience in theatrical lighting and sound;
Experience in maintaining theatrical lighting, both conventional and intelligent fixtures and sound equipment;
Experience with Vectorworks, Lightwright, QLab and other lighting and sound software;
Experience in ETC Eos Lighting consoles and distributed data networks;
Experience in supervising students in a University setting;
Ability to mix a theatrical musical using 10-30 microphones;
Demonstrated commitment and ability to work with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff and constituents in support of campus and department mission.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
MFA in Theatre Design or Technology;
2-4 years professional theatrical lighting and sound experience;
University teaching experience in theatrical sound and technical theatre;
Experience in Grand MA lighting consoles;
Interest in, and commitment to, community engagement.
Additional Information:
This is a full-time, 10 month term appointed professional FLSA non-exempt position beginning August 2023, with a salary of $42,000.
