About OOD: The Office of Development (OOD) advances Stanford's mission by raising philanthropic support from alumni, parents, families, friends, and institutional funders. The IDEAL Initiatives and Programs team serves as the central connector, convener, and point of coordination for OOD's IDEAL efforts. The program engages historically underrepresented and emerging philanthropic communities and leads Stanford's racial justice fundraising priorities. Providing leadership and specialized support across OOD and beyond, the program aims to grow Stanford's donor base and create an inclusive culture of philanthropy.
Job Purpose: Reporting to the Executive Director of Development for IDEAL Initiatives and Programs, and as a key member of the Office of Development, the Senior Associate Director of Development will serve as lead fundraiser for Stanford's IDEAL Racial Justice Initiative. In this role the incumbent will assume primary responsibility for coordinating the message, articulating the vision, and leading philanthropic partnerships as part of the Stanford Vision efforts. Along with an interdisciplinary team and development colleagues across the campus, the Senior Associate Director will identify, cultivate, and solicit, or arrange for the solicitation of individuals who will be (or become) motivated to support the Initiative. The ability to engage with a multitude of individuals including faculty, university officers and staff, volunteers, alumni, friends and foundation representatives, and others outside Stanford during the course of this fundraising work will also be important for success in this role.
Your responsibilities will include: * Understanding the programs and aspirations of IDEAL and the Racial Justice Initiative. * Working with initiative leaders and partners to provide regular communication, strategic advice and a clear action plan, thus building confidence with those leaders while managing expectations. * Collaborating with academic leaders, faculty, high level volunteers and staff to develop gift ideas and strategies and to foster relationships that will be productive for Stanford's Racial Justice Initiative. * Personally managing a pipeline of high capacity individuals (as well as corporations and foundations, in partnership with OOD's corporations and foundations team) and developing long-term relationships with these individuals to identify and cultivate their interest in IDEAL, RJI and Stanford. * In coordination with development colleagues, developing and managing outreach strategy that includes relationship development, communications, and cultivation. * Developing and managing a fundraising plan of action while coordinating with development officers from all seven of Stanford's schools and units. Consultation and collaboration with school-based colleagues as well as those in major and principal gifts is essential. * Tracking the prospect pipeline and assuring that progress is being made. * Recommending actions and/or resolving complex issues that often span organizational boundaries. * Working with the Executive Director to track budgets and expenditures in relation to projected fundraising outcomes. * Working closely with the Project Manager to oversee projects that contribute to the development and implementation of this program. * Other duties may also be assigned.
To be successful in this position, you will bring: * Bachelor's degree and eight years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience. * Ability to develop long-term relationships with donors, prospects, volunteers and faculty. Previous experience in a campaign is highly desirable. * Demonstrated ability to accurately forecast and deliver results. * Proven skills in managing multiple competing priorities and complex issues creatively and effectively. This may include long-range strategic fundraising, donor development, and volunteer engagement with the day-to-day operations. * Proven ability to make independent decisions when appropriate. * Demonstrated ability to motivate and engage through highly effective presentations and communication. A clear and confident communication style which shows spirit, enthusiasm and integrity. * Strong interpersonal skills and the proven ability to collaborate, build team spirit and achieve results within diverse populations. * Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to influence and motivate constituencies which could span multiple organizational boundaries. * Ability to meet deadlines and function effectively in a complex organizational environment demanding a high energy level, discretion, and flexibility. * Excellent interpersonal skills, including communicating across differences, cultural competence and cultural humility, and emotional intelligence. * Political acumen to collaborate effectively and diplomatically. * A commitment to promoting and supporting an environment of diversity and inclusion.
The expected pay range for this position is $175,000 - 210,000 per annum.
Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*: * Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, sit, and use a telephone, stand/walk. * Occasionally light/fine grasping, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds, writing by hand. * Ability to obtain and maintain a California Non-commercial Class driver' license. * - Consistent with its obligations under the law, the University will provide reasonable accommodation to any employee with a disability who requires accommodation to perform the essential functions of the job.
WORKING CONDITIONS: * May require working flexible hours, including nights and weekends. Regular travel may be required.
