The Graduate School of Education (GSE) is seeking a full-time Sr. Associate Director of Development to work alongside the Associate Dean for External Relations in executing the GSE's strategic plans for raising principal gifts that fund the launch and operations of the Stanford Accelerator for Learning and its program areas including Digital Learning, Early Childhood, Learning Differences, Adult Learners, and Equity.

POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Associate Dean for External Relations, the Sr. Associate Director of Development will serve as a key member of the Graduate School of Education and will assume substantial responsibility for the fundraising efforts for the Stanford Accelerator for Learning, a Stanford Long-range Vision Presidential Initiative. Core responsibilities will include identifying, cultivating, and soliciting, or arranging for the solicitation, of individuals who will provide major gifts to fund core priorities for the Stanford Accelerator for Learning. Working alongside senior staff leading the Graduate School of Education's fundraising efforts, the individual will lead activity in support of the school's fundraising across the Office of Development, organizing events, and engaging with a multitude of individuals, including faculty, university officers and staff, volunteers, alumni, friends and foundation representatives, and others outside Stanford during the course of their fundraising work.
In this role, you will:
Personally manage a portfolio of high potential individual prospects through the discovery, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship cycles. Forge long-term relationships with these individuals to cultivate their interest in Stanford that will lead to eight and nine-figure solicitations.
Provide strategic fundraising support to the Dean of the GSE, Associate Dean for External Relations, Executive Director of SAL, and faculty directors of the SAL initiatives. Strategic fundraising support includes gathering research on potential donors and their interest in SAL initiatives, developing strategies for targeted donor engagement, preparing briefings for principal and major gift donor meetings, assisting in the covenings of stakeholders in education philanthropy, coaching and guiding university leaders where appropriate, offering presentation feedback, etc.
Support university-wide collaborators who may be faculty leaders in schools/initiatives across campus who bring education and learning research to practice and volunteers.
Work with alumni, parents, and friends of Stanford and their advisors, sometimes behind the scenes through high-level volunteers, both external and internal to the university. Devise strategies for promoting and leveraging SAL's valuable status as a campaign priority to GSE alumni communities.
Partner with principal gift and major officers in the Stanford Office of Development to develop and executive donor strategies.
Collaborate with staff, academic leaders, and faculty in the GSE and across-campus to develop gift ideas and strategies and to foster relationships that will be productive for Stanford.
Maintain a current body of knowledge about GSE priorities, particularly those elevated by the dean and faculty leaders.
Become a go-to context expert on GSE and SAL initiatives who can serve as first author and strategist on complex, lead gifts.
Work in collaboration with the GSE External Relations team to delight targeted SAL donors with meaningful stewardship opportunities.

To be successful in this position, you will bring:
Bachelor's degree and eight years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
Ability to develop long-term relationships with principal level donors and prospects, as well as a proven track record of success in personally cultivating, soliciting and stewarding eight-figure gifts.
Creative problem-solving with strong critical thinking and analytical skills.
Proven ability to achieve results working through others - facilitating and enabling others to act will be as important as actions taken directly.
A high level of comfort and effectiveness working with high net worth individuals, business executives and community leaders.
The credibility, sound judgment and capacity to engage, inspire and persuade faculty, university administrators, donors, volunteers and colleagues.
Proven skills in managing several competing priorities and complex issues creatively and effectively. This may include long-range strategic fundraising, donor development, and volunteer engagement with the day-to-day operations.
Demonstrated ability to motivate and engage through highly effective presentations and communication. A clear and confident communication style which demonstrates institutional knowledge and integrity. The ability to distill complex information and shape compelling gift opportunities.
Superior interpersonal and listening skills and the proven ability to collaborate as well as build strong working relationships with a diverse portfolio of donors as well as colleagues across the campus.
Exceptional negotiation skills and the political savvy to navigate a complex academic environment.
Demonstrated experience engaging and motivating groups of diverse individuals.
Ability to meet deadlines and function effectively in an environment demanding a high energy level, discretion, flexibility, and superior work.
Proven ability to make independent decisions.
Experience working in an academic environment and staffing senior academic leaders on donor calls as well as at volunteer meetings and events is desirable.
Previous experience in a campaign is also highly desirable.
The expected pay range for this position is $175,000 to $210,000 per annum.
