The Baldwin School is seeking a full-time Upper School Painting and Art History teacher. The successful candidate will teach five classes per semester, and will be able to teach the subject material effectively, engage students positively, and interact productively with colleagues and parents. We are seeking a candidate with an academic and/or professional background in the visual arts, or art education and/or teaching experience related to traditional and contemporary art-making. We seek candidates interested in working collaboratively on innovative curriculum design and development. In addition to the work in the classroom, all Baldwin faculty members are expected to engage in those duties typical of independent day school life (advising students, moderating clubs, chaperoning events, etc.). Responsibilities:

• Introduce students to foundational concepts and skills in drawing and painting.
• Prepare and deliver lectures on art history subjects to students at the Upper School level.
• In partnership with the Department Chair and Art colleagues, develop appropriate curriculum and lessons to ensure a cohesive learning trajectory from year to year.
• Create an inclusive and supportive classroom community, establishing routines and building relationships with students; use positive guidance, offering helpful feedback and exhibiting patience, empathy and respect.
• Prepare and place orders for classroom supplies/materials with supply vendors.
• Differentiate instruction and materials to meet the diverse needs and learning styles of all students.
• Assess student progress and adjust teaching plans accordingly; provide students with regular and timely feedback about their progress.
• Create and regularly update a digital classroom page, using our learning management system (LMS), as a primary means of communicating classroom activities to families.
• Collaborate with colleagues in other content areas to design interdisciplinary and project-based learning experiences.
• Demonstrate flexibility, adaptability and a commitment to growth for yourself and your students, by actively pursuing professional development in the teaching of Painting/Drawing, Art History and other topics relevant to your teaching practice.
• Maintain an ongoing dialogue with parents about student progress, through emails, phone calls, report-writing and in-person conferences; maintain strong communication with colleagues, families, and administration.
• Attend Upper School Faculty, All School Faculty, and Department meetings and find meaningful ways to contribute to the life of the Upper School.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• B.F.A. in a relevant subject area, M.F.A. preferred
• Demonstrated content and skill expertise in Painting/Drawing and Art History
• 3-5 years of teaching experience at the Upper School level, preferred
• Effective communication skills, including the ability to provide clear written feedback to students
• Creative, energetic, and positive approach to teaching
• Ability to use academic technology to enhance classroom instruction
