An entry-level professional with design training relevant to both print and electronic formats, the Design Associate works for the Associate Director of Design as part of a team to create brochures, proposals, event invitations, programs, email templates, email headers and imagery, signage, PowerPoint presentations, and other design elements. This person employs programs such as InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat to advance the fundraising efforts of the office of University Advancement.
The Design Associate is integral to the success of the Annual Fund, helping the Assistant Director of Design with annual giving appeal letters and graphics, and to the success of our Events Team, working closely with the Executive Director of Creative Events to incorporate design that helps make events come alive. Further, the university has launched the Experience Powered by Northeastern fundraising campaign, and the Design Associate will help to create campaign materials for print, mail, and web-based applications.
The ideal candidate will have both creative design and project management skills to support Northeastern's efforts to engage our donors, cultivate their profound long-term commitment, and disseminate information about our fundraising efforts. This person should be willing to learn to deploy Salesforce Marketing Cloud and to enjoy creative problem-solving, juggling multiple projects, and being part of a fast-paced communications team in a thriving fundraising office.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
Design of print publications, general advancement, and new campaign materials
Craft thoughtful, meaningful, and energetic design of our print publications
Create fundraising flyers and brochures for both general and targeted efforts
Develop high-end philanthropic proposals
Design one-pagers like those for student support, co-op support, research support, and faculty support
Make new materials needed for the campaign launch, including one pagers, booklets, mailers, social graphics, and presentation needs
Design invitations and other event collateral, learn Salesforce Marketing Cloud to send outreach materials
Design invitations for donors, alumni, friends, and other members of the Northeastern community
Gain proficiency in Salesforce Marketing Cloud to send invitations and report on results
Design of annual giving materials
Create appeal letters, graphics, buckslips, logos, and other designs for the campaigns of Annual Giving
Collaboratively work on projects with the Annual Giving team to craft cohesive visions, incorporate videos and other elements, and develop other creative methods to make the university's annual fund appeals come alive
Special projects
Design innovative, interactive electronic design of e-newsletters, flipbooks, and other online publications, PowerPoint presentations, and other projects as arise
Knowledge, Skill Sets, and Experience
Bachelor's degree with a concentration in graphic or digital design preferred.
One to two years of creative design experience in print and electronic mediums.
A vibrant portfolio that shows an eye for artistic and creative detail.
Good working knowledge of the following programs: InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, WordPress, Microsoft Office, and Excel.
Interpersonal communications and project management skills.
The ability to work well with diverse audiences, manage workload independently at times, and oversee ongoing projects concurrently.
A strong desire to serve the needs of a fast-paced communications operation that is moving toward greater incorporation of the full range of print, multimedia, and online communications tools to meet strategic goals.
Knowledge of the design and creation of apps or websites is a plus.
