Media and Archive Manager - Lab of Ornithology

The Center for Conservation Media is a full-scale media production and communication strategy group. We are a 12-person team with diverse professional backgrounds. Some of us have years of experience in educational and commercial TV and film, while others have training in evolutionary biology, ornithology, and science communication. Our collective expertise enables us to use the synergies between science and art to produce stories that inspire action.
As the Media and Archive Manager, you will supervise and support post-production workflows and lead the development and implementation of a scalable, custom archival database. Post-production management responsibilities include day to day functional leadership and support for post-production, resolving technical issues, drafting budget proposals for post-production software and hardware, and collaborating with CM editor(s) and assistant editor on production deliverables. You will also lead the development and implementation of upgrades to CM's current media archive. You will work with footage of some of the rarest bird species and contribute to advancing domestic and global environmental conservation efforts.
What We Need from You:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in; hands-on post-production media management, shared storage management (QNAP/server oversight, backup, troubleshooting, setting up workstations, keeping up on latest software), researching and identifying the latest post processes, computers, and post-production technology
- Strong organization and project management skills
- Bachelor's degree in media production, communications, or equivalent work experience
- Deep understanding of post-production workflows, codecs, frame rates, and image sizes
- A talent for solving technical issues that lead to systems efficiencies
- Proficiency with MS Office specifically Excel
We view these additional qualifications as incredibly helpful in this role:
- Advanced ability to identify birds for meta-tagging and archival purposes
- Experience navigating procurement within large institutions
- General knowledge of film production from story development through to archive
This position is located at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology in Ithaca, New York. It is a full-time, fully benefits eligible position.
The salary range for this position is $60,345.00 - $69,655.00. The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined by prior relevant work or industry experience and unique applicable skills. Visa Sponsorship is not available for this position.
